BADASS MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY BRAWL

The Corpus Christi Ice Rays threw down with the fearsomely named Bossier-Shreveport Mud Bugs in late December, and the YouTube has just now made the Internet. It’s got everything: a brutal check for an opening salvo, a goalie fight, a body slam, players coming off the bench to fight, and an announcer with infectious enthusiasm.

One little quibble with the announcer from the word-nerd, though: when you call something a “melee,” it’s best to pronounce it meh-lay, not mee-lay, as there’s a difference between a disorderly brawl and the murder of hundreds of civilians in a Vietnamese hamlet. Although I suppose that could make a hockey game appealing in its own right. Anyway, next time just call it a “donnybrook.” That word’s got some real flair. And you know how I love flair.

It's good, but the Chris Osgood/Patrick Roy fight from 1997 or 98 is better. Even better is the fight between Claude Lemiux and Darren McCarty that ended with McCarty picking Lemiux up by the jersey and slamming him into the glass.

I love hockey, and I hate the way the NHL is trying to take the fighting out of the game. My 6 year old neice wants to either be a hockey player or a roller derby girl, whichever will allow her to beat up the most people.

That was incredible. Pay backs are hell and Lemieux deserved every bit of what he got.

Keith Magnusson liked to throw his weight around and pushed Orr to fight but Orr
avoided it because of being fouled into the pennelty box during an important game. Finally Magnusson
really 'pissed Orr off' and he went after him and stomped him into the ice. Magnusson liked to brag about his black belt but it doesn't help much on ice skates !Most of the Bruins took turns kicking Keith Magnusson's ass !

Ted Green nearly died after fight with Maki.

If there was a case of a hockey player living and dieing by the sword and almost dying by the sword it occured in the 1969 preseason.

Ted Green , a Boston Bruins defenseman who was amongst the most fearsome players in the league throughout the 1960's.

In an exhibition game in 1969 versus St Louis. Blues forward Wayne Maki charged Green from behind the Boston net. Green then reach out and gave Maki a love tap with his glove.

Maki fell to the ice but still managed to spear Green in the stomach.

Green then counter attacked with a stick swipe that caught Maki below the shoulder. As green skated away Maki swung his stick clipping Green in the head with his stick. Green hit the ice hard. With Green's life indanger he had suffered a skull fracture and a 2 1/2 hour operation was recquired. Green didn't die but came out of it with temporary paralysis.

Meanwhile both players were charged with assaults with attempt to injure. Eventually each was acquitted. Maki suspended for 30 days and Green suspended for 13 games.

Just goes to show how brutal times were back in the 60's and 70's.

My sister's ex-boyfriend used to get us tickets to the Phoenix Roadrunners all the time. I loved going to those games because of the scrappy fights. And because they used to throw us pucks before the game. :p

I've only been to two Coyotes games ever and I was bored to tears both times.

ICERAYS FALL TO MUDBUGS 4-1

CORPUS CHRISTI HITS ROAD TO FINISH WEEK AGAINST DIVISION RIVALS

Ken Carroll made 36 saves and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs offense erupted in the second period to help beat the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-1 Thursday night at the American Bank Center. The IceRays loss was just their second in regulation in the last six games and dropped their record to 13-15-4. The remained on point back of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for third place in the Southeast Division. The IceRays will travel to face the Bees Friday night in Hidalgo and then Laredo on Saturday to complete the week. For more information, please call the IceRays at 361-814-PUCK or visit them online at www.ccrayz.com.

The bad blood between the two teams was evident right off the opening face-off as the teams dropped the gloves two seconds into the game when IceRays defenseman T.J. Reynolds took on Brett Angel. Once play resumed, the IceRays took an early lead when a shot from Matt Smyth from the left circle sailed past Ken Carroll at 1:15. On the ensuing face-off another fight took place continuing the physical tempo. At 14:24 the Mudbugs tied the game when Brett Smith scored a rebound goal to make it 1-1. Later in the period Nick Bachand fought J.R. Bria – his second fight of the period and the third overall of the frame. The IceRays outshot the Bugs 13-11 in the period.

In the second period the Mudbugs took control of the game. A pair of former Rays scored twice in 30 seconds to give the Bugs their first lead of the game. First at 2:55 J.R. Bria scored his first professional goal on a shot from the left point. Then Joe Blaznek tallied from the top of the right circle at 3:25 to make it 3-1. Following the goal, Kris Tebbs was pulled in favor of Dustin Traylen. The IceRays had an opportunity to cut the deficit in half late in the period when Chris Richards was awarded a penalty shot after a shorthanded breakaway was impeded with 1:30 left to play. But Richards was denied by Carroll keeping it 3-1. The Bugs then came down the ice and added a goal at 19:19 when Neil Clark took a feed in the slot and buried a shot past Traylen to make it 4-1 Bugs after two periods. The IceRays outshot the Bugs 15-11 in the period, but trailed by three heading into the final frame.

Neither team scored in the final frame and the game ended 4-1 in favor of the Bugs.

Kris Tebbs (9-8-3) took the loss making 11 saves on 14 shots before being pulled, while Dustin Traylen made 12 saves on 13 shots and didn’t figure into the decision. Ken Carroll (9-4-1) earned the win making 36 saves on 37 shots. The IceRays power play went 0-5 while the Mudbugs went 0-2 on the man advantage. The IceRays outshot the Mudbugs 37-27.
