WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama began reversing the climate policies of the Bush administration on Monday, clearing the way for new rules to force automakers to produce more fuel-efficient and less polluting cars.

The president told the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider immediately a request by California to impose its own strict limits on vehicle carbon dioxide emissions, blamed for contributing to global warming.

Obama, a Democrat, took over from former President George W. Bush last Tuesday.

Bush's Republican administration had denied the request, prompting California and other states to sue.

"The federal government must work with, not against, states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Obama said at the White House, taking a stab at his predecessor's policies.

"The days of Washington dragging its heels are over. My administration will not deny facts, we will be guided by them. We cannot afford to pass the buck ... onto the states."

Obama's directive, which is likely to result in a formal change in the coming months, could prompt as many as 18 states to follow California's lead by putting into effect tailpipe emissions standards that are tougher than federal mandates.

The president also directed the Department of Transportation to set boost fuel efficiency standards for automobiles by March 30 for model year 2011, giving manufacturers 18 months to prepare.

"clearing the way for new rules to force automakers to produce more fuel-efficient and less polluting cars."

The auto industry here in the states are holding on by a thread, and now they will be forced into complying with expressive new laws that will force them to redesign the cars they produce which will cost them a fortune.

Brilliant idea there stupid.

Yep, He's probably doomed at least one of the car makers. Of course, it will be blamed on Bush's policies.

Oh, don't worry. When this massive bailout fails to do anything, there will be more payouts.

He really believes that his mission is not just to undo everything that Bush accomplished, but to remake the nation in his vision. This is why you want to keep messianic types out of politics.

Oh, don't worry. When this massive bailout fails to do anything, there will be more payouts.
Which, in turn, will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis, which will call for more bailouts, which will suck more money out of the private sector, creating more job losses, further economic chaos and deepening the crisis....

Eventually, we will see either complete economic collapse, or a repudiation of Obamanomics and a new administration.

Obama will NOT own the mess he is dedicated to creating. He will blame somebody else. I'm guessing the "evil Bush Regime" or the "It was going to happen regardless and nobody could have fixed it." At any rate, HE WILL NOT BE BLAMED OR TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for the disasters he is already creating.

This is just the latest obsession of the chattering classes. It's eugenics all over again, except that it took the Holocaust to discredit that field of endeavor. Hopefully, they'll figure out that this is BS without causing equal suffering.
