Congress Approves Protectionist Measure That Could Spark Trade War
Major partners, including the European Union and Canada, say the legislation favoring U.S. steel, iron and manufactured goods for government projects could undermine pledges by the leaders of major economies not to resort to perfectionism during the world economic downturn.

WASHINGTON - Congress approved protectionist measures in a $789 billion stimulus bill Friday that U.S. trading partners have warned could spark a trade war.

The bill, however, left the Obama administration some room to maneuver to appease other countries who say it will benefit U.S. companies unfairly.

The stimulus bill was approved by the House Friday afternoon and by the Senate later in the evening. It now goes to President Barack Obama who is expected to sign into law quickly.

Major partners, including the European Union and Canada, say the legislation favoring U.S. steel, iron and manufactured goods for government projects could undermine pledges by the leaders of major economies not to resort to perfectionism during the world economic downturn.

If I am not mistaken, Canada and Europe wanted the Magic 8ball to be elected. They got what they wished for.

If we start a trade war with Canada, we are going to get the short end of the stick. We import around 15% of our oil and natural gas from them plus they provide electricity to US customers in the northeast. Obama is playing with fire here. I could give a shit about the EU nations; our trade with Canada is more than all of the EU countries put together. Eight ball better watch his step because our trade relations with Canada were not the greatest prior to this abortion bill.

Someone needs to protect this nation, its sovereignty, the jobs of the American citizens.

It is after all "We the People of the United States," " Not we the people " (slaves) of some unholy collaboration of the Globalist Elite and the Socialist International for shared control of a one world society where both believe they get what they want .
This is the path we have been going down since we joined the U.N. and had our government influenced/controlled by those that have no patriotism if there isn't a buck in it for them.

A nation consists of more than lines on a map or the gleaming towers of the Corporate Empire that owes no allegiance to any nations but the almighty dollar nation.

We have been sold out to long!

In direct contradiction to this, Geithner announced at the G7 that we were committed to not taking protectionist measures. See this article (http://www.france24.com/en/20090214-g7-seeks-plan-halting-global-recession-rome-imf).

Hope that is true... we do NOT need another Smoot-Hawley.
