SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Raising fresh questions about his appointment to Congress, Sen. Roland Burris admitted in a document released Saturday that former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's brother asked him for campaign fundraising help before the governor named Burris as Illinois' junior senator.

The disclosure reflects a major omission from Burris' testimony in January when an Illinois House impeachment committee specifically asked if he had ever spoken to Robert Blagojevich or other aides to the now-deposed governor about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.

State Rep. Jim Durkin, the impeachment committee's ranking Republican, told The Associated Press that he and House Republican Leader Tom Cross will ask Sunday for an outside investigation into whether Burris perjured himself.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada also said he was reviewing the disclosure, the latest twist for Senate Democrats in Washington who only consented to seat Burris on the condition that there were no "pay to play" promises exchanged in the appointment.

State Rep. James Durkin (R-Western Springs) said Saturday that the Sangamon County state prosecutor‚s office will be asked to review Burris‚ Jan. 8 sworn testimony before the House panel to determine whether Burris (D-Ill.) perjured himself.

"I don't trust anything that comes out of Roland Burris‚ mouth or from his pen," Durkin said.

"We had a major league situation facing us. This is a United States senate seat that came under the most clouded of circumstances," Durkin said. "This is supposed to be about the year of reform this is about ethics and about transparency."

Durkin questioned why he found out about the additional testimony Friday night from the Sun-Times.

"Why were we kept out of the loop? Why were we kept out of the latest filing of Roland Burris?"

I realize these are rhetorical questions but I'd like the resident liberal/DIMocRAT apologists to give me a plausible answer other than the obvious.

We all know that this information would have been potentially devastating to Burris's appointment. I say "potentially" only because he is a DIMocRAT. Had this been a Republican there would have been immediate disclosure. And it wouldn't have had to been true either. Our liberal press would have been glad to heap on a few made-up "facts" to enhance the alleged Republican corruption.

Just another example of liberal media Bias. Is anybody keeping score?

And today, two GOP leaders in the Illinois house seek to try him for perjury...since this announcement contradicts testimony he gave to the Illinois house in January.

It also contradicts an affidavit Burris filed on January 5 that said "there was not any contact between myself or any of my representatives with Governor Blagojevich or any of his representatives regarding my appointment to the United States Senate" before December 26, 2008.

In the Feb. 4 version, Burris suddenly remembers talking to Blagojevich's brother and chief of staff in October and November.

Well he's got the job now so it's safe to start remembering these things.

Did they talk about his appointment? Because as far as that article says, they talked about fundraising for Blago, NOT his appointment to the senate.

Not saying I like Blago or Burris, just pointing out that he did not perjure himself with those statements. Now, do I think he's lying and just politicking as usual? Yep.

I love Illinois and I'm friends with many politicians there, from both parties. It's too bad this stuff keeps happening, as it's not a good way to attract businesses to the state. I'm glad they got rid of Blagojevich and even those in his own party did not hesitiate to vote him out!

Hopefully things will get better, that state has alot of important things that need attention right now, and this kind of stuff takes away from that.

His college records would tell us that. The Magic Negro like many Democraps has appointed liars, crooks and tax cheats. Burris is no exception.
