What section would a bookstore put some junior-reader biographies of Barack Obama?

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b211/Dispel_Illusions/borders-messiah1.jpg

A letter from Borders’ national office explaining this;

Borders corporate spokeswoman Ann Roman told WND there was no intention on the part of the staff to associate books about the Obamas with religion.

“We are a completely politically neutral organization,” she said. “As you can imagine we carry every political perspective, authors from both parties.

“What happened here is those books were for kids and they were put under an overarching sign. Our team did not mean to imply an inappropriate classification,” she said.

They didn’t have any children's books on religion, for their religion section? I don't see any there.

The empty shelf under the O books says a lot.

I'm with Borders on this. It takes time to make up and distribute signs that read "Creepy Personality Cult" and religion was the next best thing.

I do think some are taking it too far. I like Obama, but nobody knows what type of President he's going to be yet. And obviously, it's not religion. Maybe inspirational to some people, but not religion.

some atheist asshole moved a book, placed it under a sign and snapped a pic. That's what it's proof of. Quite another thing from someone setting up a display under the religion heading of books on the mOssiah.

Continue with that train of thought... and you might have an explanation for the Obama display....

Your explanation is hollow when the bookstore already explained it and it had nothing to do when an anti-Obamite setting it up.

To me, it looks like a clerk at Borders made a mistake, created a display of Obama books for junior readers, and didn't bother to check the sign at the top to see what section it was being put under.

It's sort of like the time when I worked at K-Mart and the manager asked the color-blind chick to set up some of the displays.

Now I'm certainly not a Nazi supporter, but lets be accurate here. Hitler was very charismatic and respected by his followers, but he was not worshiped as a god. If you had used Germany as an example though. If you want a good example of Nazi propaganda, take a look at the movie "Triumph of the Will." One main reason that Hitler was so successful is that he managed to give a country who was completely demoralized after World War I a reason to feel pride in themselves. They felt that they were fighting for the greatness of their country, not necessarily for Hitler.

And in all honesty, if we saw Washington DC bombed to pieces, what would we do? We would want to fight back, regardless of who the president was.

Since when? He certainly was for a good portion of his presidency.

It is interesting that they both think the symbolism of some glowing circle around their head can invoke positive reactions from the populace. Really such an absurd concept when you think about it.. but I'm sure it works.

I don't even want to think about what it would be like now if Palin were VP. They'd be replacing all the statues of the Virgin Mary in every church across America with her.

I'd have to look pretty hard for Bush worship, because there's not much of it. Even conservatives have a mixed view of him. OTOH, liberals really do have this messianic cult thing going with Obama, and during the campaign, he encouraged it (normal, sane politicians don't promise that the sea levels will fall because of them). The iconography of his campaign, from the Stalinesque campaign portrait posters to the Greek temple motifs, not to mention the over the top media adoration, made Obama out to be our political savior. Trying to pretend that the media and Democratic Party didn't present him in messianic terms is like trying to prove that they didn't bash Bush for eight years. You can make the claim, you might even believe it, but the evidence against it is obvious.

You've got it backwards. Conservatives always bring evidence to bear. It's liberals who refuse to look at it. You either attack the messenger, deny the facts or make up specious moral equivalences in order to try to disprove the obvious.

Actually, I completely eviscerated the premise of this thread.... and the absurdity of it is demonstrated by the ensuing tap dance attempting to try to explain that why, on one hand, a halo'd profile or book store mishap is proof of some religious belief with Obama as the target... yet on the other hand, when it happens to Bush it is not.... absolutely hilarious. :)

I don't disagree there are people who idolatrize politicians... Bush had plenty of it, he just had 8 years to wear away almost all traces of it. All the Obama supporters that I personally know have a reluctant, cautious optimism.... but arent naive enough to think any politician is a godsend (not something we can say of the more "pious" conservatives).
