View Full Version : Obama tells a whopper

I just saw President Obama state that there is a bankruptcy every thirty seconds in America due to health care costs. Let's do the math, shall we? That's two bankruptcies per minute, 120 per hour, 2880 per day, for a total of 1,051,200 per year. That's a lot, especially since the total number of bankruptcie in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2008s, according to the US government, was 967,831. You can read the stat here: http://www.uscourts.gov/Press_Releases/2008/BankruptcyFilingsAug2008.cfm According to that source, that was a record:

August 27, 2008 In the 12-month period ending June 30, 2008, there were 967,831 bankruptcy cases filed, according to statistics released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. That is a 28.9 percent increase compared to filings for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2007, when cases totaled 751,056. Historic data on bankruptcy filings is available on the Judiciary's website under Bankruptcy Statistics.

So, what we're being told is that every bankruptcy in America in the last year was caused by health care costs? And that this accounted for 100,000 more bankruptcies than were actually recorded?

If President Bush, or any other Republican had told such a blatant lie, the press would have crucified him, but the lapdog media simply repeats the claim without any scrutiny.

It's going to be a very long four years.
