A San Francisco performance artist was sentenced Friday to as many as four years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for the early torching last summer of the signature effigy of the counterculture Burning Man festival.

Paul Addis pleaded guilty in May to one felony count of injury to property stemming from the burning of the 40-foot icon on Aug. 28 four days earlier than planned. He was ordered to pay $30,000 in restitution.

Perhaps he can think of the next 4 years as an extended piece of performance art.

Isn't that the same guy who tried to burn down a church in San Francisco last fall?

I think so I missed that story, but in the comments to this one at sfgate it referred to a previous arson offence.

By the time he gets out, his rear end will be burning.

So apparently in SF, burning something early that was meant to be burned in the first place is more objectionable than trying to burn down a church.

You like the smell of unwashed hippie-wannabes and the sight of droopy naked bodies of over-the-hill hippies?

OK, OK, I consider myself warned!

IF I ever get to go, I shall report back here promptly!

It might be a good place to observe for a sociology research paper. I chose the mall for one of mine.
