First impressions...

Better than the pre-cooked bacon from the grocery store. Very toothsome without an excessively salty taste or overpowering smoked flavor.

Perfect consistancy for BLT's right out of the can. Crisps up in 30 seconds in the microwave.

The processing got rid of almost all of the grease, just trace amounts on the waxed paper.

Quality 9/10.(Strips could be just a TAD thicker.)

Convienience 6/10. (Some of the strips will invariably tear a little when seperating them.)

About how much per BLT ?

The stuff is pretty pricey, but it has a 10 year shelf life... probably you can add 4-5 years to that by keeping it in a cooler temp stable enviroment.

Plus it kicks ass for backpacking and camping for convienience.

Look at it this way:

Between 2-3/4 and 3-1/4 pounds of raw bacon go into each can. This gets you between 35-40 cooked and drained slices of bacon. Before shipping that comes to a little over 9$ per can.

Raw bacon... 5-6$ for a 2 pound uncooked package that will yield 22-25 slices. Or 3-4$ for less than a pound that will yield you 11-14 slices.

Sorry to keep playing bean counter with you but .Take the low end of each case .
22 slices of The raw stuff $6.00 devided by 22 = 27 cents/slice
35 slices of the canned stuff $9.00 devided by 35 = 26 cents/slice plus shipping .
I pronounce it cost effective !Check the math !

Quite the contrary. I'd think he's trying to kill me with that awful stuff full of so many nitrates that it would last 10+ years.

You have to throw cans of green beans out way before that. That stuff has to be full of so many preservatives that they probably could use it to embalm someone who died on a camping trip.:D

PS I'm a bean counter like Megimoo and my numbers were about the same. Besides, we have all those MRE's that SR brought from Sarasota.

I know of a bar that used to have a bacon night.

They would deep fry bacon in turkey fryers.

It was the real thick, fresh from the meat locker, peppered kind....others would bring in bread, mayo and 'maters....

It was an interesting promo that brought in alot of people.

They guy that owns the meat locker, is a pretty good friend of mine....he is always winning awards:

Now this is bacon:

http://www.webermeats.com/Assets/ProductImages/PepperedBacon.jpg

Weber’s bacon goes great with breakfast. In fact, our bacon, just like our hams, has won Grand Champion Awards at the Illinois State Meat Processors Competitions as well as the American Association of Meat Processors Competitions. All bacon is hand-crafted done the old fashion way one bacon slab at a time. This bacon is cured and smoked in Hickory Chips. The bacon has five different flavors that we offer; Apple Cinnamon, Maple Glazed, Jalapeño, and Pepper (same five spices used in our Pepper Ham). We recently added dry cure bacon. The dry cure is a hand rubbed belly that is hung for twenty-one days and then smoked. Also Brand New item is Apple Wood Smoked Bacon which is hand-crafted to precision.

Pepper Bacon

This is a bacon that is seasoned with a five spice pepper rub. The bacon is hickory smoked and is hand crafted one slab at a time. This is a great addition to one of American's favorite grill item, Cheeseburgers. One slab of bacon weighs between 9-12 pounds. This can be sliced as a thick cut bacon and packaged approximately one pound packages or cut in half slab pack.
