View Full Version : I bought my last pack of smokes yesterday.

$5.64 for Marlboro Lights.

I don't have children, so I refuse to pay kids health care. I'm already paying for too many from income taxes. Happy, gub'ment? You win, I quit.

Please excuse my irritability for the next couple weeks. This pack will be gone today.

Good for you - don't give those greedy pigs one thin dime. ;)

$5.64 a pack? Really? I think there are 20 cigarettes in a pack, right? So you're paying 28 cents per? Excuse the ignorance but I haven't bought cigarettes since the ONE year I smoked them, 1972.

When I started smoking, about 8 years ago, they were $2.80. The increase is nearly all taxes. They added an additional 85 cents yesterday, to go along with the near dollar tax added last month.

Well, it's a bad reason to do a good thing - quit. You'll be much better off. If I were you, I would try not to think what I've spent on those things over the years!

I've quit for 3 months here, 6 months there. Then someone pisses me off, and I have to go get a pack to keep from blowing up. I've been planning to quit, but this is a nice kickstart.:D

It would be a more palatable tax if the health care did not include illegals! However as a former life long smoker, I am glad that you quit. You will have no regrets, and you can take that money you would have spent on the noxious weed and invest it - in gold.

This is why smokers get so jumpy and angry: even when they quit, they never get to stop hearing about how stupid they were. If someone pulls their life together and stops sleeping around randomly, you never people hear say, "Good Lord, what were you thinking? You were a total slut. I can't believe the money you wasted on contraception, STD screens, and fancy sex toys. You must feel like an idiot." :p

We all pick our vices. I'd rather have memories of hot, temporary "romances" in my later years than a hacking, mucousy cough, but maybe that's just me. :p

I seen on the news that cigs are $9 a pack in New York!

I thought President Obama was only going to raise taxes on those that made over $250,000 a year? :D

I usually smoked dope for free. Buy a 1/4 pound, sell enough back to my buddies to cover my cost, keep the left over. Plus, they'd usually smoke what they bought with me before they left.

I started to, but I can't see laying that much money down at once for smokes. Just makes me feel better to never see that number on the register.:D

It was painful. The look on Tristan's face when I had to break the news about no Christmas made up for it though.:p

B-B-B-But you GOTTA keep smoking! Haven't you heard Jerry Doyle? We've all gotta smoke more for the children! :D

Personally, I'm upping my intake to a carton a day. Here's a picture of what I'll look like by tomorrow:

I've got about 3 cartons left, then I'm done.

I thought about stocking up, but why delay the inevitable?

Don't do it Rebel. Real smokers find a way to deal with the increase. Surely there are ways you can find the money. Like not eating dinner twice a week.

If Numbers were any kind of sport she'd offer to buy and ship us all the smokes we need. Cigarettes in Virginia are amongst the cheapest in the nation.

I know. I was thinking of making one out of this before the tragedy. Guess I'll stick with Ted.

Here's a chance for some of you enterprising people to smuggle untaxed smokes in from Canada or Mexico and carve out your own niche in the tobacco black market. You might even make enough to buy a couple of packs for yourself.:D

Congratulations to the quitters. The price in PA went up to about $7.00 a pack. We have LOTS of quitters, including my b-b-b-boyfriend. (feels weird to call him that, but it seems that is what he is).

Out of the blue, he put out his last cigarette and said, "I will not be lighting another". He has been smoke-free for 2 weeks. The smoke never really bothered me, but it is nice to have clean smelling hair again.

And you're about to go on jury duty. You'll probably try to get capital punishment for a guy who passed a few bad checks.
