(CNN) -- Husbands are allowed to slap their wives if they spend lavishly, a Saudi judge said recently during a seminar on domestic violence, Saudi media reported Sunday.

Arab News, a Saudi English-language daily newspaper based in Riyadh, reported that Judge Hamad Al-Razine said that "if a person gives SR 1,200 [$320] to his wife and she spends 900 riyals [$240] to purchase an abaya [the black cover that women in Saudi Arabia must wear] from a brand shop and if her husband slaps her on the face as a reaction to her action, she deserves that punishment."

Women in the audience immediately and loudly protested Al-Razine's statement, and were shocked to learn the remarks came from a judge, the newspaper reported.

If i told my wife to take 240.00 and by something to cover her head up she would slap the snot out of me and I would be wearing one to cover up the bruises.

What's the dude doing giving his wife $320 in the first place? Surely there were some scrap garments laying around the house that she could have used to sew one together.

Men? ...

Interestingly, the best way to build a stable family is outlined very clearly in the Bible. The man is the authority in the house, and both wife and children are to respect him. In return, he is commanded to love his wife as his own flesh, treat her as a co-heir to salvation, and lay his life down for her at need, as Christ did with His church. Upon the man rests all the responsibility to build and maintain a happy family...or die trying.

No, just the Bible.

A woman makes a comment about desiring a family raised in the lights of the Bible and you link it to Saudi Muslims justifying abuse.

Please tell me you were in the Olympics, because that's a heck of a leap.

Not that much of a leap.

BTW, for all the "muzzie" experts  commenting in this thread regarding the abaya, you're wrong (but what's new). The abaya is not a head cover; rather it is the black garmet that closes at the neck and goes down to the ankles. And all women (Muslim and non-Muslim) are required to wear it in public.

You should not speak of ignorance. Anyone that is your age (pushing 60), does not own a house, a car and can not retire because you pissed it away has no room to talk.

It seems like that's your only comeback, old man. What you don't seem to realize is that not all people have the desire to live the American Dream of a house in the suburbs, 2 SUVs, a dog and a cat, and 2.1 brats. There are those of us who think that those sorts of people are dull, stupid, and have wasted their lives.

Most people think that those that live your kind of life are losers, stupid and have no purpose in life except to satisfy their own self centered egotisical self. Hey, it your money but it is rather pathetic to see an old man still having to work in his golden years. Damm, you don't even like dogs or cats. I can understand SUV's and kids.

Why would I ever want to retire? I love what I do. Traveling about on OPM, interacting with a different client every few months, learning new technologies and methodolgies, not going into the same office day after day (I don't even have one within my company), drinking lots of scotch and sampling the local delicacies. Perhaps I'll slow down one day, go independent, and take selected contracts, and manage my girlfriend's business. Money's really not the issue.

BTW, I have four cats.

Several months ago you said you were not satisfied with your job and were looking for another one. Sounds like you are trying to bull-shit us. The real reason you won't retire is that you can not because you have been sampling too many of the local delicacies. At a thousand dollar a pop, that puts a drain on your finances. BTW, what business is your girlfriend in.

Uhm, yes, but I don't want to change professions. I always want to be a consultant, flitting in, making more money than the schmucks who work there daily, compiling hotel and airline points. I tend to avoid the thousand dollar local delicacies, based upon a cost/reward analysis. Ask BC, he'll tell you the best price point is around $300.

As to my girlfriend, she's a dentist. Why?

You cheap bastard. 300 bucks and I thought you were a high roller. That's the price range of whores that hang out in hotel bars rather than at a high line NY escort service. Shit, I had a friend in N.O. who used them in his computer business and paid them a couple of hundred bucks a pop. That was 30 years ago.

Why would your g.f. need you to manage her business. That would be a pain in the ass that she does not need. Plus, I could see you dealing with those mommies with their 5 to 8 brats screaming and hollering.

You're showing your ignorance of the market. True hobbyists know how to appraise value vs. cost. The going rate for the appropriately vetted ladies (one never picks up someone in a bar, as there are multiple risks, including LE associated with that approach) is $250-$400/hr. Clearly this is something probably best discussed elsewhere; however, if you're interested at your age, I can certainly direct you to the appropriate sites.

My girlfriend is not a pediatric dentist. SHe does not like, nor encourage, screaming brats in her present position. When she buys her own practice late this year, I expect that trend to continue. Having been a consultant in both business and IT for 23 years, I assume that some of those skills might be applied to her business. In any case, I certainly don't need any advice from someone who sucked the government teat all his life (a true conservative virtue).
