Archbishop Chaput: 'Notre Dame, the Issues that Remain'

There was no excuse – none, except intellectual vanity – for the university to persist in its course.

Notre Dame’s leadership has done a real disservice to the Church, and now seeks to ride out the criticism by treating it as an expression of fringe anger. But the damage remains, and Notre Dame’s critics are right. The most vital thing faithful Catholics can do now is to insist – by their words, actions and financial support – that institutions claiming to be “Catholic” actually live the faith with courage and consistency. If that happens, Notre Dame’s failure may yet do some unintended good.

DENVER (Catholic Online) - There is no doubt that Archbishop Charles J. Chaput is one of the preeminent Churchmen and Catholic voices of our age. His courageous and crystal clear messages to Catholics on the importance of living with what Pope Benedict XVI refers to as "moral coherence" and thereby avoiding what the Council warned of as "greatest error of our age...the separation between faith and life" have instructed, motivated and challenged millions. His latest book "Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by living our Catholic beliefs in Political Life" is already destined to become a classic. It succinctly addresses the vital obligation of integrating our Catholic faith and our obligations of citizenship.

The Archbishop leads the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado which is a shining example of the "New Evangelization" which the late Servant of God John Paul II called for and which his worthy successor, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI is now leading. The seminaries are full, the parishes are growing (in fidelity and number)and the ecclesial movements are flocking to find a missionary outpost. The Catholic Church is being demonstrated to all who live there - and beyond - as the continued presence of the Risen Christ in our midst. snip

And this is/was a First Rated Catholic University with international recognition as our Ladies House.
For Shame Fr.Jenkins and The Notre Dame’s Board of regents. You have disgraced your faith, the Catholic church And the blessed Virgin Mary herself !
Outside the gates of the university. There were nearly 1200 protesters. Not the 350 the press reported. There were marked police cars every 1/4 mile. The police tailed one of the pro-life trucks plastered with aborted baby pictures wherever it went. It couldn't make a move without a police car. Pro Obama people were there taunting white protesters telling a woman she was a b**** and were f**** racist pigs if they didn't like Obama. I am certain if Obama knew this he too would have been sad.
Dr. Keyes was one of the first arrested after one of the officers demanded they leave campus.
The encounter became more intense when police began to remove Father Norman Weslin, a former Army Colonel who became a priest after his wife died in a tragic automobile accident. In his 80’s, Fr. Weslin is a familiar figure in the work of Pro-Life through Lambs of Christ.
The swelling of the pro-life position since last year is seen across Christian religious affiliations, including an eight-point gain among Protestants and a seven-point gain among Catholics.
You are free to decide where and with whom you stand. You do not, however, have the right to try to change the Catholic Church to suit your opinions or wishes. No matter how brilliant you are, you are not above the Magisterium. No matter how persuasive the political position, you cannot ignore the law of the Church and the Natural Law. Doctrine and Orthodoxy may be distasteful words in this age of personal freedoms, but if you call yourself Catholic, you need to know what Catholic doctrine actually says and follow it.
Proof that Obama is at war with Catholics
in his appointment of this creature Knox to White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. An outspoken homosexual activist Knox is the director of the religion and faith program at the Human Rights Campaign, a homosexual activist group and an avowed enemy of the Catholic Church.
The proposed budget calls for an additional $150 million for contraceptive-only education, which includes competitive grants, research, evaluation and authorization for $50 million in new mandatory condom grants to states, tribes and territories, according to an Abstinence Clearinghouse press release.
Knox, who is not Catholic, has a record of slamming the Catholic Church on internal matters that are none of his business. To wit: he blasted the decision of a priest not to give Holy Communion to a lesbian activist couple, and he accused the Catholic Church of promoting ‘mind control’ and a ‘dangerous’ position for simply saying that candidates for the priesthood cannot support the ‘gay culture.’
(Alan Keyes) He (Father Jenkins) has scandalized us and other members of the community of the faithful by his role in the decision taken by the University of Notre Dame, in defiance of the explicit direction of Church leaders, to extend a scandalous commencement speaking invitation and honorary degree to Barack Obama, who has become the focus of abortion evil in the world today.
We are confused, Fr. Jenkins. Why would a Catholic University bar Catholic women from speaking the truth about a fundamental Catholic teaching, under the signage of a healing program that is sponsored by a Catholic priest, while praying the Rosary? Yet, the University would welcome, honor and have a person speak at Commencement who is virulently opposed to this same fundamental Catholic teaching?
Our concern is not just that he is at odds with Catholic teaching. Our concern is that he is at odds with American teaching, and the very meaning of public service – which requires being able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. He should neither be at Notre Dame nor in the White House.
The archbishop said it would be foolish and delusional to deny the United States' Christian origins, quoting Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
We will pray especially for conversion of heart for President Obama, that he might grow to respect life from conception to natural death and that his policies might reflect that (in particular that he will reverse his pro-abortion stance). As a secondary intention, we will pray for the University of Notre Dame, and all Catholic universities, that they might grow in their understanding of what it means to be Catholic and truly embrace their Catholic identity. Finally, we pray that this country, and all countries throughout the world might embrace a greater respect for life in all its stages.
(Randall Terry at Notre Dame). Obama will be honored and welcomed on campus, though the innocent die at his command; we were jailed, and banned forever from the campus, because we defended those dying at his order.
In the letter, a copy of which LifeSiteNews.com received from the bishop's office, the bishop condemns the Obama honor as the
latest in a series of decisions sending a 'shamefully ambiguous message' on the school's fidelity to Church teaching.
Bishop Martino had rebuked Casey for his vote on the Mexico City Policy, saying in a letter, 'It is also imperative that there be utter clarity when it comes to the teaching of the Church on matters that pertain to the taking of innocent life and the special responsibilities that fall to you, Senator, as a lawmaker to oppose abortion and other clear evils.'
The President's position offers new and unique challenges for the pro-life movement. There is no doubt that the President still embraces a radical pro-abortion position. The only thing that is changing is his strategy not his policies.

Obama Pisses On Catholic Church

Catholics Take Offense to Obama Naming Critic of Pope Benedict to Faith-Based Panel

Harry Knox, appointed by President Obama to a White House advisory council, lambasted the pope and Catholic bishops in a gay newspaper last month for their opposition to same-sex marriage.

A representative of a national gay rights group who was appointed by President Obama to a White House advisory council this week once described Pope Benedict XVI and some Catholic bishops as “discredited leaders” because of their opposition to same-sex marriage.

Harry Knox, director of the religion and faith program at Human Rights Campaign, a Washington-based gay rights group, lambasted the prelates in a gay newspaper last month for their support of Proposition 8, the successful November ballot measure that made same-sex marriage unconstitutional in California.

Knox told the Bay Area Reporter that the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic fraternal service organization, were “foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression” for their role in the campaign, saying the group “followed discredited leaders,” including bishops and Pope Benedict.

“A pope who literally today said condoms don’t help in control of AIDS,” he said, referring to the pope’s statement condemning the use of condoms in Africa.

William Donahue, president of the Catholic League, said the appointment of Knox further undermines a faith-based program that has been watered down by Obama.

“People are right to criticize the Catholic Church for anything,” Donahue told FOXNews.com. “But Harry Knox is not just a critic. He’s insulting. He used disdainful, disparaging terms to talk about the pope and the Catholic hierarchy. If someone were appointed using that language about homosexuals, he would be thrown out.”

Donahue said he would prefer to see Obama end the faith-based initiative.

Knox did not return messages seeking comment.

Marianne Duddy-Burke, executive director of DignityUSA, an organization for gay Catholics, who has worked closely with Knox, called Knox a strong supporter of Catholicism who acknowledges the good works of the church.

“But I think he also represents a valid viewpoint in criticizing the Catholic bishops’ efforts to sustain continual oppression in this country,” she said, adding that they have been the primary financial backers of measures to block the human rights of gay couples. “The bishops have done a lot of damage to our communities, and [Knox's] presence in that circle brings a much needed voice.”

Knox is among the 25-member advisory council that is part of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Obama established the office in February with a broader mission than the one previously overseen by President Bush. Obama said the new office, which he created by executive order, would reach out to organizations that provide help, “no matter their religious or political beliefs.”

Some have accused Obama of appointing Knox to deflect criticism from liberal groups after he invited former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy to be part of the council. Dungy, an evangelical Christian, supported efforts in Indiana to ban same-sex marriage in 2007. He declined Obama’s offer, citing scheduling conflicts.

Obama’s War Upon God

Catholic Church Loading Up For War With Obama

"With over 67 million residents professing the faith in 2008 and about half of them are pro life, not pro choice, non progressive real church going Catholics Obama must not be planing on a second term !"

McCain thinks that Barack Obama is “a decent and honorable man” but the Vatican knows differently. A “decent and honorable man” would not support legislation that refused aid to a baby who survived a failed abortion, thus allowing the child to perish—to put the child to death. A “decent and honorable man” would not support abortion in the first place. Indeed, is there anything—anything at all—in the life of Obama that could possibly be described as “decent and honorable”?

We have in this Obama the most radical pro-abortion candidate one could possibly imagine—any abortion, for any reason, at any time, and death to all who somehow survive. And this creature has no problem with this grim statistic.

Nationwide, blacks make up 12 percent of the U.S. population but have 35 percent of all abortions. Half of black babies conceived are aborted. Obama supports Planned Parenthood, which has 78 percent of its clinics in minority neighborhoods…

It is macabre and other worldly that more than 90 percent of blacks voted more for a man who supports the murder of half of all conceived black children. Do these people have a death wish? Yes they do, as does any race that slaughters its offspring. Mother Theresa said that “a nation that kills its children has no future.” A black who voted for Obama is completing the task the Ku Klux Klan could never accomplish, the gradual extinguishing of the black race.

A Vatican cardinal has more to say about Obama than his support of infanticide.

His Eminence James Francis Cardinal Stafford criticized President-elect Barack Obama as “aggressive, disruptive and apocalyptic,” and said he campaigned on an “extremist anti-life platform.”

“Aggressive and disruptive” most certainly describes not just the Obama campaign but also every one of Obama’s long term associates like the decent and honorable Jeremiah Wright and the decent and honorable William Ayers. And Obama as “apocalyptic” will certainly work its way in the fullness of time.

And odd it is that the deranged pleading of Jeremiah Wright to “Goddamn America!” came true when Obama won the election.

Evil men are not and cannot be evil in private. Basic theology states that evil so disrupts a man that he is at war with himself, with his fellows and with God. And evil desires company, lots of it. The more influence an evil man has the more he can bring into his evil. Such a creature at the head of a nation can pull millions with him into the pit. That nation might not even survive.

And what does one say of a people who willingly and willfully place such a man in power? To quote Mencken, such a folk deserve to get their maximum leader good and hard.
