WICHITA, Kan. — Women's Health Care Services, the clinic that has been bombed, blockaded and vandalized for more than 20 years because late-term abortions are performed there, will be closed this week to mourn the slaying Sunday of founder George Tiller.

But the clinic will resume normal operations next Monday, said LeRoy Carhart, a Nebraska physician who has been coming to Tiller's clinic on a rotating basis for more than 10 years now.

"What people need to know is... the women's services that we provided for 30 years are not going to change," Carhart said. "The same abortion services will remain available in Wichita."


I think they could have waited a while or relocated the clinic. I hope the clinic and local authorities know what they're doing.

“I hope we can work this out with the Tiller family,” Carhart said in a telephone interview from his Nebraska clinic. “I thought we were yesterday. The three of us (doctors) and most of the staff members are committed in providing care anywhere.”

Anti-abortion groups plan two days of "prayer and memorial events" later this week to mark the death of George Tiller and the closure of his clinic.

The objective, according to Operation Rescue's announcement is "to pray for healing and an end to abortion-related violence."

I just hope they're respectful of Tiller's family.
