Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”

He didn't say largest. He said one of the largest.

Well, if by largest you mean smallest, then you are right.

It's a stretch, but he was trying to make an overall point about the nature of our country and our tradition of religious diversity and freedom.

I do know that the Detroit media frequently says that southeast Michigan has the highest arab population outside of the Middle East. That doesn't necessarily translate to a muslim population, because there are also plenty of arab christians in the area, especially chaldeans and lebanese christians who came here in the 80s.

Dear Lady, I hate to be picky, but why can't liberals say what they mean to say the first time? I've lost count of the number of times I heard, "What they were trying to say was..." over the last 4 months. For someone who is such a great communicator, his administration has a hell of a time getting a straight message out.

To say
Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” is some point about the nature of our country is more a WTF , than a stretch.

By your very statement our country cannot be considered Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Taoist, or anyist in the realm of faith what so ever. If this country is supposed to have a deep tradition of being diverse then no one in the country can claim that the country as a whole belongs to any group.

When will our countrymen stop associating themselves with 'homelands' and respective faiths and ethnicities and simply be Americans? Its almost as if it were socially unacceptable to be an American in our own cities.

The country may not belong to any religeous group but the traditions are christian. Christmas and easter are good examples. When was the last time you fasted for Ramadan?

agreed, our traditions our christian, however this does not make us a christian nation. Our government was founded on the principals of the Roman republic...we can see how far from a republic we have become over the past 10 or 20 years or so (perhaps longer??) Ask any bloke on the street what sort of government we have and the most common answer you will get is Democracy, good ole fashoned mob rule. Course...FDR calling us the 'Arsenal of Democracy' before we jumped in to tango with Hitler didnt exactly help the whole 'republic' idea.

Lie?

How about exaggeration to win over an audience?
