Ensign Steps Down from GOP Leadership Post

By Paul Kane
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), a day after admitting an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer, has resigned his position within the GOP leadership.

"He's accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized to his family and constituents. He offered, and I accepted, his resignation as chairman of the Policy Committee," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement just issued.

That position, No. 4 among the leadership ranks, provided Ensign a staff of about two dozen aides and a platform to promote both conservative causes and his own political ambition.

Ensign remains in Las Vegas today, as colleagues streaming into a meeting of GOP senators generally have declined all comment about Ensign. "It's a no-comment day," Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) told reporters.

Give him props for admitting it, even though it was probably on the brink of coming out in a story or something. Dont really care, but I'll start this thread to get the usual "if this was a democrat it wouldn't be reported" BS out of the way.

HEY - at least republicans have the decency to step down from leadership when they're caught. Still waiting for Frank, pelosi, or Rangol to do the same . . . .

It was hilarious watching the rationalization over at FR today - that it 'didn't count' because he was separated at the time.

As Ross kept insisting to Rachel on "Friends" - "We were on a BREAK!"

Why didn't he say I screwed up and go back to work?

All Part of the Rahm Emanuel and Snake Head Carvels Blackmail campaign, anything they can use in their Blackmail and clear the decks campaign. The list of conservatives in office is being culled for anything that they can use to tip the balance in their favor.Queer, wifebeater, drinker,in debt, divorced .Former senator Gary Hart saw his 1988 presidential campaign go down in flames after the press published a photograph of him, aboard a yacht called "Monkey Business," with a model named Donna Rice sitting in his lap .She was paid to do it and The whole thing was staged with the press right on hand .In this corrupt age that wouldn't work as well .

--Yep. Still waiting to hear what $90 GRAND was doing in Jefferson's fridge.

Dims don't care; they know how to play the system. No worries; they still have to pay the piper.

What's happenin to Jefferson after $90 GRAND was found in his fridge............... (http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/oftdelayed_trial_of_william_je.html)

From this morning's Politico:

"A born-again Christian and a crusader for traditional values, Ensign was a member of the Promise Keepers, a Christian evangelical ministry that emphasizes family values. In a statement, Promise Keepers said that the group “prays for John Ensign, and we are encouraged that he is pursuing reconciliation with his family.”

This is why there's so much attention when a Republican transgresses - because they hold themselves out as protectors of "Traditional Values" when they're getting their dicks wet on the side.
