In doing research to figure out what this bullshit was all about, I've discovered something. I still don't know why this kid was allowed to do this but I do know the same people who allowed it just voted themselves a 100% pay raise. A Metarie citizen initiated a recall petition against Jindal for not vetoing it. I've taken my kids to New Orleans and showed them where I grew up. They would ask me why I'd say I'd never live there again. If I needed a reason?

This happened in 2008 when the state was flush with a surplus of hundreds of millions due to oil revenues. Although the legislature passed this obscene raise, the Governor in the end did veto it because there was an outcry from citizens. Jindal learned that he was voted into office for financial responsibility. He received tens if not hundreds of thousands letters and e-mails. So he changed his mind. He pissed many legislators off especially those from the Crescent City.

We are getting better. Louisiana is the only state in the US to have positive growth in 2008; the surplus was put in a rainy day fund. Our debt in 2009 is manageable. Repub. Governor Jindal will try to abolish or reduce the state income tax this coming legislative session.

Last summer didn't the Legislature try to give themselves a 300% pay raise at first? Then settled on 100%. I thought Jindal actually let it go through and only after the huge outcry did he do something. My mom lives in Metairie and she said some guy in Metairie had started a petition to recall Jindal because of this.

Many, many years ago my brother went to Boy's State. Is there any chance this kid in the Legislature had anything to do with Boy's State? I know that one is a stretch.

Jindal promised the Legislature that he would okay a pay raise rewarding them for their effort on passing legislation such as ethics reform which was near and dear to the Governor. The raise was 100%. Taxpayers got wind of it and raised 11 kinds of hell. The Governor plan was to not sign it and after so many days it would become law. Also, there was a petition to recall the Governor because of this legislation. People were pissed to the max. He reconsidered his promise, vetoed it and in the process made many legislators mad at him especially those in the black caucus.

I have not idea what the crap that kid was doing in the Legislature.

Demographics is a bitch. You don't have a real motivated, intelligent populace.. Reference Katrina... The Man is still being blamed for that natural disaster and the failure of the citizens to get the hell out when instructed to.. Unless the government is giving it out, they aren't getting it.. The best known thing about Louisiana is the party of drunken stupidity culminating with the cops on horseback clearing the streets of all the stumbling drunks and degenerate pick pockets..

Unless debauchery and drunkenness is one hell of a money maker, I don't expect LA to be one of the power players in the great places to live department, oil riches aside.

Now, Lacarnut, I've always enjoyed your posts, and you're definitely a chip off the old block if you're in LA, but I always assumed your La meant L.A.. Sorry to hear that it's LA..

The video in question pretty much sums up what I think of when I think of Louisiana.. That and an Army buddy of mine with the most hellacious accent that was from the durty souf.... He was a hoot to listen to! I traded that guy a 250 cc Ninja for a 1979 Datsun 280Z.... He probably rode that motorcycle all the way from Arizona to N'olens with a dip in his cheek...

It's N'Awlins. I know that it's difficult for a non-New Orleanian to fully comprehend the bastardization of 2 simple words into a word only a local would understand.

But then again, while you probably go grocery shopping, a "yat" is making groceries.

While you go too your mom's home to visit, a "yat" will "go over by my mama's". Never go to, it's always over by, got it?

There aren't a whole lot of things this yat misses about N'Awlins, but I do miss it's language. It's so unique.

I am glad I live in Baton Rouge, LA rather than a shit-hole like L.A. Since Katrina, my house value has almost doubled, property taxes are extremely low and cost of living is much lower. Since I am retired, my property taxes have been frozen for the last several years. The economy is good and unemployment is less than 6%. The people are friendly and we have the best food in the US.

As far as what you have seen on TV about Katrina and Bourbon St in N.O., those are just a minute pictures of the city/state. The French Quarter is for tourists and suckers in my opinion. I used to go to N.O. years ago to watch and listen to Jazz and eat at an outdoor cafe on a Sunday afternoon in the French Market area. Many tourists and locals would rather go to Riverwalk, Aquarius of the America, the Zoo, N.O. Jazz Fest, paddlewheel dining with music, or go shopping at tax free zones rather than get bombed in the French Q. or piss money away at the Casino. All depends what you are looking for. Most of those dumb ass drunks you speak of during M.G. are from out of state. Looks like a money making machine for the city.

BTW, where do you live?

I live in the People's Republic of Communist Massachusetts, and believe me, this crappy state has its faults, too.. . I'd rather live in LA than here any day of the week, as long as I was in a nice neighborhood and not near all that Katrina mess. I was raised in Tennessee, and I love the family values of the Midwest/South.. Up here in the Godless Northeast, it's a disgusting bastion of liberalism and Obama worshippers. Being a Libertarian here is about as productive as being one at <insert institution of higher learning of choice>.
And I'll admit that it wasn't fair of me to make a generalization about the entire state off of the coverage of Katrina, but those Creole folk sure have some funny ways...

How many cities did you live in? One or two and which one/ones did you see burning cross's. I have lived in Baton Rouge for over 50 years and I have yet to see the first one. The overwhelming majority of citizens are opposed to this crap. The mayor of this city is black. He was re-elected with a 75% majority of the vote. Whites make up 45% of voters. Your little story does not hold water where I live. Got it!

I lived in Seattle for 2 years and got in fights in grammer school at least once a week because of my southern accent. Lived in Lake City Florida where the rednecks would come out from the surrounding countryside to town and act like a bunch of animals. After I graduated, the Feds arrested the Mayor, Police Chief and Judge for distribution of drugs. Lived in Ft Chaffee, Ft. Sill and DC in the Army. I did not like any of those places.

We lived in Alexandria, where England AFB used to be. From everything I've heard from people who've been stationed at Barksdale AFB, Shreveport is no better. And we all know that New Orleans is a shining font of civilization.

So the north, central, and southern parts of the states are all shitholes. *shrugs* Don't know what else needs to be said.

I know there are some parts of Louisiana that are nice. But when all is said and done, I can think of 49 more states I'd probably rather be in... Well, maybe 48. South Carolina was a pretty shitty state to.

So you lived in one place, Alexandria, and from your own personal experience as a kid, you formulated this opinion. How old were you? Were the 13 and 14 year olds in your school mean to you or kick your ass on a regular basis. You stated that you are 25 years of age now and that you lived in Alex during the 90's so that makes you a punk ass kid who was/is still wet behind the ears. You have never been to Shreveport, Baton Rouge or New Orleans. So you do not know shit about them. Just running your mouth off about them cause you do not know from personal experience if they are nice or not.

I have lived in OK, AR and MD while I was in the Army. I did not like any of these places but I would not condem the whole state for just living in one place like a stupid Mother Fucker like you. The only military posts I did like was in Frankfurt and Berlin.

I asked you a question. Where are you from? That should not be too hard a question for a dumb ass (could be a yankee) like you to answer. As far as burning crosses, they have taken places in Long Island, CA, OR, Il, etc etc. Google is your friend.

I have other things to do this am but I will await your answer.

You might want to scratch NJ off your list too. If you think Taxachusettes is bad, NJ makes it look like a conservative haven.

As for N.O., I went there last year and to tell you the truth, it was too frigging hot to do anything so I didn't see much of it save for a few blocks of Bourbon St. But I need to ask, how in the hell did Nagin get re-elected? I shared a cab with a couple of buddies and one asked the cab driver(who was black) his thoughts on Nagin and his response was in the range of no comment. I mean, this man scooped up a bunch of people, plopped them into the Super Dome and bid them well in their future endeavors. Pretty much left them to rot and almost killed that arena yet these same goons re-elect him.

Don't ask Djones520 those hard questions. He has been to all 57 states just like the O with one more to go. At 25 years of age he knows everything. Just ask him.

I do not how Nagin got re-elected. It is gotten so bad that charisma and bullshit go a long way getting a politician elected. Obama is a good example. Nagin was holed up in a downtown hotel for days after Katrina hit the city. He was afraid of his own people. The National Guard had to rescue him. No kidding.

I thought sure that Senator Landrieu would be defeated but I was wrong there also. The Repubs put up a weak turncoat Democrat up to run against her.

Blanco was such damaged property after Katrina she did not run for re-election. Her favorable poll rating were barely above zero. She is like Janet Reno; neither one could get elected dogcatcher. The stupid bitch is writing a book about her experience as Gov.. It might sell a 100 copies.
