Here's something that I received from American Solutions, Newt's Group.

There's still time, call your rep today or early tomorrow, before the vote is held tomorrow. I talked to my local rep's office. Todd Akin is voting against this nonsense. Here's hoping your reps are planning to do the same.

This week a late night deal was struck on the national energy tax. Clearly, Speaker Pelosi is running a machine, and was able to strong-arm a number of moderate Democrats to stand against their own districts and support this energy tax. Now, Speaker Pelosi is trying desperately to get a vote by tomorrow.

This national energy tax would possibly be the largest tax increase in American history, cause gas and electricity prices to skyrocket*, and add to our already spiraling federal deficit. We cannot afford this.

You can help in two ways right now that will have a big impact:

Make a small contribution of $15 to keep our TV ad on the air. (http://ssomail.charter.net/do/redirect?url=http%253A%252F%252Fbit.ly%252F4gszK) Your contribution will also be used to run newspaper ads in key districts to inform voters about this bill.
Call your member of Congress now, and urge a vote against the national energy tax, H.R. 2454. (http://ssomail.charter.net/do/redirect?url=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.americansoluti ons.com%252Ftake-action%252Fcall.php%253Fmemberid%253D0038000000aaQ bvAAE) Nancy Pelosi is desperately trying to corral as many Democrats as possible to vote with her, even though many of them have serious reservations. Your call right now can change the game.

If you're wondering what to tell them, here are some points* to bring up. The energy tax would:

Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion
Destroy an average of 1-3 million jobs, every year
Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation
Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent
Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent
Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500 annually
Increase the federal debt by 26 percent, which is $29,150 per person
Remember, we only have until tomorrow. Thanks for what you're doing.

Sincerely,

All this obama crap reminds me of just throwing shit at the wall and see what sticks. He is trying to implement so many socialist programs at once that he just wants some of them to stick!
We do not need the Cap and Trade or the Universal Healthcare.
We need big change next year in both houses.

We need big changes next year, but in the meantime we need to try to do whatever we can to stop these liberal programs that once implemented, will be almost impossible to turn back.

Here's hoping pressure can be brought on some dems to not back these destructive programs.

I'll just share some of my normal optimism. We are screwed!

God I hope that the democrats in Congress don't act as sheep like usual. If this passes, coupled with universal healthcare, this country will have major problems.

Succinct, but quite accurate.

Passage in the House is almost a given. The Senate may be another story.

I was hoping folks from here would call their reps. I did, but I knew he'd already be voting against it. The person in his office said he would vote against it.

PLEASE, EVERYONE, CALL YOUR SENATOR. WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION AND NOT JUST WATCH THE MICHAEL JACKSON VIDEOS.

Thanks.

Does anybody know when the Senate is going to vote on this?

I'm going to be calling Burr and Hagan's office every day between now and then.

On edit: You know what irks me about this the most? Global warming is a crock, so when this bill passes and no climate-related disasters happen, the Democrats get to take credit for "averting a crisis". More proof that no matter what problem comes down the pipes, you can just tax it out of existence.

Sometime after July 6th I think. According to Sen. Levins website they won't convene until then.

I've called and will call - and I push my circle of friends to do the same.

Well, my Congressman voted for it. I know this man personally and am none too happy about it. 9 Republicans voted for it and it passed by 7 votes. This means a whole bunch of Democrats voted agaisnt it. This is a dark day for America. Hopefully it will die in the Senate.

Time for everyone to call those 9 and ask them a simple question: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU???

Lobiondo surprises the hell out of me as his record is pretty conservative. His congressional seat is not in jeopardy(every time he's been re-elected it's been by around 20 points) and he hasn't given an indication of wanting to run for Senate so why he went with this is a mystery but I intend to find out.
