NEW YORK Historic swindler Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison Monday for a fraud so extensive that the judge said he needed to send a symbolic message to potential imitators and to victims who demanded harsh punishment.

Scattered applause and whoops broke out in the crowded Manhattan courtroom after U.S. District Judge Denny Chin issued the maximum sentence to the 71-year-old defendant, who said he lives "in a tormented state now, knowing all the pain and suffering I've created." ...

The FBI and the IRS should go after every penny this monster stole. Leave his wife, children,associates broke if they rec. any monies from his criminal activities.

150 years is fair. He'll never get out, which is the point.

But lacernut, you are right. His wife is probably hiding some of that money, there should be a way to go after it. But they really need to be looking for a mistress. Mistresses are the best way to hide money, because it's harder to trace the money to them if no one knows about them. They also are usually dumb enough to play along, and keep the money for their men.

There wasn't a plea agreement, why doesn't the gov't go after his wife and sons also?

They profited.... as much as he did.
