View Full Version : I've had enough of people bashing others for their religious views!!

We've seen this time and time again on DU. Tonight it was rather striking once again.

link (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6038973)

DUers once again express their hatred and intolerance for anything Christian, including respect.

I've seen way too much of it on DU. And quite frankly, it's just as sick as the shove-it-down-your-throat extremism practiced by certain people on the 'right.'

To me, respect is a major part of being a liberal. And if you can't respect other religious beliefs besides your own, then I have to wonder how you can call yourself a liberal.

And get serious. The hate comes mainly from religious types, not at them.

regulating people's lives in the name of their God.

Until then I will post about the union of government and religion....a terribly scary thing.

Until then, I have no reason to pay any heed to what a bunch of irrational fools believe.

21. If someones religious beliefs tell them to do something to society
That I think is wrong, I will respect their right to believe what they want, as I point out what they believe, and why I disagree with it.

People can believe any religion, but when they use it for a rational for actions that seem to be less then good, and those things are done in secret, then the religion becomes a motivating factor, or a common denominator of ideology of a group.

As an example, the fundamentals in Utah were religious. They taught children not to cry or feel, to be non passionate about anything. Heard that before? And their abuse of children makes their teachings a societal matter.

Anyone can believe what they want, but when they hit someone because of that belief, and use it as a rational, it becomes part of the conversation.

Although the stereotyping on religion here is a bit rampant.
And there's lots more of the "I'll respect you or your beliefs if I agree with them".

A "Liberal" is defined by a set of values. One of them isn't "respect for hate groups."

In other words its okay to be a bigot if you're liberal.

I love to bash other religions.

I love to point out that the Mormons have a SciFi base to heir little cult.

I love to point out the silliness of the Catholics and their little Pope and Mary worshipping.

I occasionally remark on how American Jews have more loyalty to Israel than to America.

Jehovah Witnesses are a riot.

I love to point out that Fundamental Christians have turned a Grace based religion into a deeds based religion by wanting everybody to be perfect.

Donít even get me started on those goddamn Muslims and that 76 Virgin thing.

I think that FlaGator and I are the only two true believers on CU but sometimes I have my doubts about FlaGator.

Can you show me where I have ever said I have a hatred of Jews?

In fact I have said just the opposite. I said I respect the religion and consider myself a Spritual Jew.

You have mistaken my dislike of the country of Israel as being against Jews and that is because you are not smart enough to pay attention to what I say. Or else it is because you don't want to pay attention.

In the spriit of the original post I just wanted to let everybody know that I am the only true believer on CU. All you rest are posers.

And we Catholics do not worship the Pope or Mary. The Pope is the main authority figure of the Catholic church just as the leaders of the Southern Baptist denominations are the main authority figures (and Mormons have similer beliefs as well). We look to the Pope as an authority figure, but most of us still consider that he doesn't have it right on everything.

This is one reason why Catholics believe in Pergutory. Most of us won't be as right as we should be before death. It's sort of a hangout place to better clean up at. Yes, Jesus cleanses Christians of their sins, but a lot of us still seem to be muddy at times. We're not perfect.

Of course, it would be funny if St. Peter hit some people upside their head before letting them in. lol.

United States isn't exactly without sin. Jesus said that the first one without sin should be the first to throw a stone.

Definition
By Mayo Clinic staff

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. They believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.
