I wonder what that Socialist pig Clinton gave them for this little media stunt? I'm betting either the GPS coordinates of all the high value targets in America, detailed routes of all of our naval vessels for the next 10 years or an entire updated stockpile of nukes.. Remember last time Clinton and Albright dealt with Kim, they merely gave him nuclear technology.. Surely Kim has gotten more greedy through the years...

Clinton, who arrived in North Korea Tuesday on an unannounced visit,

I call bullsqueeze, this was all pre-arranged! There for sure was a quid-pro-quo that will bite us on the ass later!

The same with the guy the pirates captured. If you're going through dangerous territory, then hire some protection. Just don't depend on the government to come get you.

If they went into N Korea, knowing damn well the risk of snooping around (a reporters job), then they knew the consequences. I'm sorry, but there are some places you need to stay out of.

FG, we're not talking about a sum of money here.. We're talking about giving N. Korea military technology that will pose an existential threat to our country, just as Clinton and Albright did last time they appeased Korea.. Often, irresponsibility carries a price, but that too high a price to pay.. These reporters knew the risks going in.

Exactly like them. The fact that you are American doesn't give you immunity from danger in foreign lands. If anything it makes you a target. Hell, when I was in the Navy, we had to be careful what part of Puerto Rico we went to.

Every one here is jumping to a lot of conclusions with absolutely nothing to base them on. We don't know if any thing was promised or that Crazy Kim just decided to look gracious for the world audience.

But Rebel, you never did answer my question concerning the fate of one of your close relatives had they been tossed in to a NK prison. You can weight in on this to stsinner if you'd like. I know that regardless of the cause I would go out of my way to free one of my loved ones if they were in a NK prison.

I never said that it did, but how does the reason they were in danger influence the your opinion of their situation. Would their imprisonment be worse if they were simply tourists visiting China who got lost and wandered over the border? . How about American soldiers on recon? What if they truly were spies working for American Intelligence. Would that make their captivity more or less acceptable? Does the fact that they were over there to document human rights abuses that later may have had a positive effect on conditions over there matter any? At what point do you draw the line and decide that a life isn't worth going to bat for?

That's not a fair question because when it's your immediate family you don't think rationally. You don't look at a crisis with the same logic when it's your loved ones.. If my son stole something, I'd sit down with him and explain to him that this kind of behavior isn't acceptable and say that he deserved a second chance. Tell me that some kid down the street stole something, and I'd advocate his arrest.. I am of the opinion that one's rationale isn't prudent when it hits loved one and that they'd have different reactions in most situations if it were a stranger..

Because you don't like the question doesn't mean that its not fair. What is so wrong about wanting to see all people treated as I would want my loved ones treated? Maybe when it is some one close to us caught up in events like this is when we actually do think rationally. Perhaps the willingness to let someone suffer because they aren't close to us and/or they put themselves in harms way is the irrational way to think.

I disagree, again.. One example-my ex-wife's family was so mafia-like that if she robbed a bank and I told her mother about it, she would tell me, "Well, she must have needed money. What's wrong with that?"

I'm not saying to just turn your back on the two journalists, but there is a limit to the ransom we should pay. I just didn't agree with your contention that it didn't matter what we gave N. Korea, as long as the journalists were safe..

But we don't know if any ransom was paid. Some people here is making assumptions based on no evidence and then jumping to conclusions based on those assumptions. Would you consider that rational thinking?

I understand my view or what is rational is not the same as others and not everyone sees the world as I do, but I did once see things differently but my perspective has changed and I have learned how valuable and fragile life is. I am unable to set that view point aside no matter the circumstances.

Putting jumping to conclusions aside; how would you feel knowing that one of your loved ones violated another country's laws, was released and turned around and made the same mistake a second time? Even though I would try my best to get one of my loved ones out of a foreign jail, common sense or the lack of it comes into play. I don't know if this is the case but reporters often have that mentality that they are above the law. When that happens, I say actions have consequences. Family or no family.

That doesn't bother me. Their intention was to document the mistreatment and mass starvation of the people of North Korea. I don't believe that they thought they were above the law. I feel that they were trying to show the world how bad things are in NK. Of course actions have consequences but that doesn't mean that nothing should be done to help them out.

Aren't you jumping to conclusion on their mission? The possibility does exist that they were there for other things such as spying. I do believe that they knew their actions were illegal even if it was for a noble cause. I am glad that they have been pardoned. However, if they are stupid enough to go back, I say you made your bed now lie in it if you get caught again. Reporters who get their asses in cracks in foreign countries do think Uncle Sam will bail them out and they do think they are above the law. At least, that is my opinion.

Exactly! My only issue was with FlaGator apparently saying that is doesn't matter the cost, as long as they are safe. Clinton got burned by Kim when he was in office, so I don't know why we should expect anything different this time around.. Clinton and Madeline Albright are the only reason that N. Korea has any bargaining power right now.

Like Obama and a beer behind the White House (unlike Bush who was most likely secretly drinking as an alcoholic while POTUS), I find an occasional glass of red wine to be a boon to my good cholesterol. Or so my Dr would say - whatever you are doing, keep doing it.

Well, now that I can rest at peace knowing we FINALLY have someone at the helm who knows what is going on, a diplomat, a brilliant man, I find the need to "escape" just not there. NOW...had John McCain been elected, it would be a completely different story. People FINALLY woke up and here we are with PRESIDENT OBAMA. Oh, of course minus the people on this board, that is.

But back to the journalists and Bill Clinton - he was truly on a humanitarian mission. No profit, no motive. Funny, in a million years, neither Bush nor Cheney would have done what Bill Clinton did. NO WAY.

As far as Obama knowing what's going on-Obama has no clue what's going on in America.. He's probably well up to speed on what's going on in France, as he's trying to model their failed health care and tax system, but Obama has no clue about what it means to be American. All he knows is that he has absolute power right now, so he's going to ram his Socialist agenda down our throats.

Yeah, neither President Bush or Vice President Cheney would have gotten a BJ from a fat intern or bombed an aspirin factory to cover it up.. You're right about that!

Clinton spent almost a full term mired in court and there's a laundry list of people who died or disappeared under his watch, as well as documentgate, but you still hold him up on a pedestal.. Haha! The funny thing is...where exactly will you go? There is NO place for you to go. You cannot go to "librul" Europe now, can you...you can't go to the Middle East. How about Librul Canada? How about Venezuela? As a result of the Bush years, you people are social pariahs wherever you'd set your feet, to even include Communist China, as due to Bush policies they hold so much worthless US debt you'd most likely be made to work it off in some camp. Gee, just where on this planet will you find refuge with your whacked out, right wing, evangelical, fundie beliefs? No one wants you! No one for sure if you told them you VOTED for Bush!

I am thinking about selling my house and moving to a beach condo in Colon Panama. I have the means to do it and to live the life of Riley. For someone that claim to know Spanish, you are one dumb ass. Venezuela might be for you but it's Panama or Belize for me.

And it's not an affliction to most, other than to the small minded who would view it in that way. It's a sexual orientation.

The fact that ytou lived where the have the worst cases of this mental disorder doesn't sway me.. They still voted to ban homosexual marriage.. :p

LOL! Can I tell you how many years I read posts in this very forum blaming Clinton YEARS into Bush's presidency? (well, fake presidency, that is.) haha, nice try.

Hail to the socialist agenda. I cannot wait and can only hope we become a socialist country. We'd all be better off for it.

This is what stupid, non-skilled and lazy people feel.. The need the rest of society to pull their weight and take care of them..

No, I think what I was referring to was that neither Bush nor Cheney is the least bit inclined to go out of its way to help anyone else. But then you know this. Republicans, after all, are the party of NO! No to anything for the average Joe, that is.

No, I'm one of the most generous people I know, but EVERYONE is not deserving..Some need to just get a fucking job and take care of their kids.. Seems to be a pandemic in the Democrat party.

I am not a communist at heart, rather a socialist at heart, just to set the record straight. It seems to me that those of "your ilk" are awfully nervous these days. I, for one, couldn't be happier (well, not true. I'd be happier if the last eight years prior to Mr. President Barack Obama had never happened - but they did). We just have to claw our way out of the wreckage now, as it were.

So do we need a new thread to debate exactly what Billy Boy promised Kim and how this feeds that little psychopath, or can we get back to the point here?

"Clinton expressed words of sincere apology to Kim Jong Il for the hostile acts committed by the two American journalists against the DPRK after illegally intruding into it," the news agency reported. "Clinton courteously conveyed to Kim Jong Il an earnest request of the U.S. government to leniently pardon them and send them back home from a humanitarian point of view.

Actually no I am not. I am recalling what I read earlier about why they were in NK. If they had other motives like working for the CIA then I am not aware of it nor would it change my view. Jumping to conclusions would be assuming that they were in NK for the purpose of spying. Until such a time as there is evidence that they were spying I will stick to the point that they were there for their stated reasons.

FlaGator
08-05-2009, 06:20 AM

Can you point out to me where I said that? I said that we don't know the cost (if any) and that they are safe is all that concerns me based on the information at hand. Please don't make assumptions on my point of view. If you are unsure then ask.

Rebel Yell
08-05-2009, 08:47 AM
I never said that it did, but how does the reason they were in danger influence the your opinion of their situation. Would their imprisonment be worse if they were simply tourists visiting China who got lost and wandered over the border? . How about American soldiers on recon? What if they truly were spies working for American Intelligence. Would that make their captivity more or less acceptable? Does the fact that they were over there to document human rights abuses that later may have had a positive effect on conditions over there matter any? At what point do you draw the line and decide that a life isn't worth going to bat for?

I wasn't saying you thought that. I was saying that these people who think it'd be nice to expose a tyrannical leader seem to think that because they're American they're safe from any real harm. Everyone already knows that Kim Jong Il is a maniac. The ones who don't will never be convinced otherwise. You play with fire, you sometimes get burnt. These people should have known full well what could happen to them. Then the world acts suprised when it happens.

As far as my family, I would want them released. You'll always feel that way about your family. That's why the decision shouldn't be left up to the family. I would probably make the wrong decision.

When you say, "It doesn't matter what he promised them," I take that to mean that, "It doesn't matter what he promised them," which means at face value to anyone firing on all cylinders that the cost of getting them back is irrelevant. I simply disagreed.

What could he have promised them? Hillary is under Obama's thumb and Obama doesn't seem to think to highly of Bill. I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean to imply at all cost but in this case, at this moment in time, it seems like their return was very important. I wouldn't go to war over them or give nuclear weapons but their lives are important to me. I view all human life as significant.

I don't like making blanket statements that cover all situations since every situation iis different and should be judged on its own merits. Also, as far as I know there still is no word on what if anything was promised.

This is true.. I was being coy when I made the post because of the stupidity of Clinton during his presidency thinking that he could give Kim nuclear technology and that he wouldn't use it to weaponize his military and join the nuclear club..

Kim has a habit of getting uppity every six months , or so, and making threats, and what we do to appease him is either give him money or food aid, and he shuts up.. I don't think he'd do anything for free.

Oh, it was probably just some technology for ICBM guidance or a nuclear submarine or something else the administration thinks is worthless.

NO WAY.

Noooooooooooo, they didn't get lucky, exactly. Yes, it is true The Great One came to their rescue. That can be considered luck. I am surprised you didn't know they were Korean prior to this, however. So much for keeping up on stuff.

I thought it was Bill Clinton that got the journalists back from the NorKs, not Mark Levin.

I'm glad they are home too. I didn't read the whole thread but did anyone think about this was basically negotiating with terrorists? I heard it last nite and it got me thinking that it is going to be fashionable once again to pluck Americans off the street all around the globe now that they know its profitable once again.
Just a thought.

I thought the SAME THING!!! There's no way he'd leave the underground bunker to rescue some irresponsible journalists..
