Health Debate Produces Angry Protests, Angry Retorts

By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff Jonathan Allen, Cq Staff Thu Aug 6, 12:03 am ET
The Earth-scorching August firefight over health care has given rise to questions about the point at which stifling civil discussion damages the democratic process.

All across the country, conservative opponents are clamoring to disrupt town-hall meetings about the proposed overhaul of the nation's health care system, using GOP-generated talking points to shout down Democratic congressmen who attempt to explain the plan.

The Constitution protects their right to speak freely, but Democrats say that they are limiting rather than promoting an open exchange of ideas.

Some experts on political organization say that despite the disruption of Democratic-run events -- and divided public feelings on the health care overhaul -- the shout-down strategy betrays an essential weakness on the Republican side, not a strength.

Typical "reporting" from the MSM. They are trying to sway public (read: sheeple) opinion on the matter. Nothing new here.

I say bravo to the protesters. If it was left up to the weak kneed Repubs in Congress, this monstrosity of a health care bill might be law today. People are outraged because health care is a life or death issue. Something that those on the left don't understand. "It's the Health Care Stupid".

Rep. Carnahan and the Gladney Incident: the secret press conference

Rep. Carnahan and the Gladney Incident: the secret press conference.
There is a reason why the United States of America is a democratic republic, and not an aristocratic republic. The first generation of a particular family may be politically able; may, in fact, be very able. The second generation of that family may likewise be politically able. Sometimes - sometimes, and mostly if the family name is Adams - even the third generation is politically able. But it is unwise to bet on that.

Rep. Russ Carnahan (D, MO-03) is of the third generation of a political family. His last name is obviously not Adams - and does it ever show.

Kinda shines a light on the fact that tyranny and oppression of dissent really can happen here if we let it, eh?

I always find it amusing when the left does what they always try to accuse us of doing!
