I know Bush has been called a fascist and a Hitler on at least a few occasions during his administration, but did we ever have left-wing crazies with zero regard for history waving around signs declaring such at public events?

Yes, but Bush really was like Hitler.

26. i agree, we did- without reserve and very publicly. We DIDN'T
however, encourage violence- racism- class warfare- and division in the way that some RW talking heads are doing, and HAVE been doing for some time now.

I think its important to admit that we did equate Bush with Hitler very often- and effectively. But the comparison was also much more appropriate. Given Bush's "dictator" desires, his invading sovereign nations, his "homeland security" "axis of evil" and so many more similarities to the tyrant himself.

5. The Bush family WAS involved with the Nazis.

Prescott Bush was impeached in the Senate for it.

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

The difference between us is that when we call them something it's actually TRUE!

Kinda like when call Obama "The Magic Negro". He's not really magic.

OOOOHHHH.....They were just joking......

6. I'm sure that there were some posters at anti-war rallies that compared him to Hitler.
We did it all the time in a joking manner here.

In their defense, there are some reasonable voices there.....

Google bushitler...

Using DU's own Google search, you find this:

Results 1 - 10 of about 3,020 from democraticunderground.com for bushitler. (0.40 seconds)

It's a shame, in my opinion...

The best post of them all, seriously......

22. Yes. And as someone who had family murdered by Hitler and his
Nazi thugs, I got offended each time I saw it. RW...fascist tendencies--perhaps. But comparing them to Nazi's? That demeans what my family went through in Poland.

Prescott Bush served two full terms in the Senate. Never impeached, and no reason for it. That person may be thinking of the other senator from Connecticut at the same time, Thomas Dodd, who was one of the few senators censured by the Senate. Thomas Dodd was the father of Chris Dodd.

HOOKEM was a very loved poster on this site quite a while back. Unfortunately she passed away...:(

I never had the personal pleasure of reading her posts, as she was gone shortly before I registered the first time.

OK, who's Hookem?HookemHorns, a wonderful, sweet, delightfully funny, brilliant woman who kept us all in absolute stitches with her "dipsidoodles," her own fisking of DU threads. I would laugh until tears ran down my face reading her posts.

Most unfortunately, she was taken from us, much too young, just before Thanksgiving in 2005 (I think).

Oh, BULLSHIT!!! You not only encouraged violence, racism, class-warfare and division, but you acted upon it! You hung and burned effigies of President Bush and the troops. You called our soldiers "baby-killers" and encouraged them to "frag" their officers. You assaulted Republicans and tried to intimidate them at the polls. You blocked entrances to recruiting offices and rioted in the streets during your "protests."

Gee, let me think...
YES!
Those liberal cretins compared Bush to Hitler every single freaking chance they could get!
In fact, as Joanne98 demonstrates, some of the more psychotic lefties even claimed that the Bush family helped orchestrate Hitler's rise to power!
"We DIDN'T
however, encourage violence"
Oh, please. You guys might not have usually done so blatantly out of fear of getting arrested for incitement charges, but you did so subtly using euphemistic terms like "Direct action" and "Diversity of tactics."
Plus, I seem to recall shortly before the 2008 election, a DU thread stating that if McCain won the elections, all the lefty fruit loops should invade Washington en masse, barricade the White House, and basically "Shut it down" until Obama is declared the winner.
