The disclosure of the statistics comes just three days after Andy Burnham, the Health Secretary, claimed there were no longer any waiting lists in the NHS.

Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat shadow health secretary, last night criticised the figures and said Mr Burnham's comments were offensive to the thousands of patients awaiting treatment.

He said: "Three days after the Health Secretary claimed there were no more waiting lists in the NHS, Government figures have shown that a quarter of a million people are stuck waiting longer than 18 weeks for treatment.

"Andy Burnham's insensitive comments will anger the thousands of patients who are still waiting for treatment. The era of Whitehall targets must come to an end.

"We need a health service which gets people treatment fast and has the flexibility to meet the demands of the public. If people are left languishing on NHS waiting lists, they should be entitled to go private."

I hope they can get their NHS fixed soon 'cause once our new healthcare system kicks into full boondoggle-swing, we'll need to fly to Britain to get decent care.

SOL for dentistry, tho. :p;):D

I don't think the Democrats really know what they're doing or what the repercussions of their actions will be. Just like their blind race to rush anti-gun laws through Congress during the Clinton administration gave rise to the 1994 ass kicking they took in the elections... this will be much the same.

Once all the people who think they're going to get 100% free world class health care per Obama's false promises are going to wake up to the truth and they aren't going to be happy.

- They're going to get a co-pay system, not the single payer system they're been told they're going to get. They'll be on the hook for $5k to $10k each year for their deductible depending on if they're married or not. When they don't pay the government the $10k they owe them, they will come after those people much like the IRS does. They'll garnish wages, raid bank accounts and otherwise cause complete chaos. Houses will be lost, cars will be lost, jobs will be lost due to he collection activities of the government.

- They will get rationed care contrary to what they're being told.

- They will sit on waiting lists for what used to be simple and common procedures like colon cancer treatment. In the US you have a 90%+ chance at survival under our current system. Under the English system you have about a 50% chance of survival. When people start dying due to poor care, they're going to get pissed.

I predict a rash of angry people lashing out at the system. This probably includes shootings at medical facilities and doctors offices. People get emotional about things like family and friends dying due to malpractice - and it will only be worse when its the government causing it.

We're setting ourselves up for a massive headache and the Democrats will ultimately pay the political price. It's kind of bitter sweet. I would love nothing more than to see these idiots go down in flames but not at the cost of hundreds of thousands of needless deaths and suffering.

I think you're exactly righ, F.A... All people need to do is look around the world at the crappy care other countries receive.. I watched Sicko by Michael Moore, and he tired to portray France's medical system in such a great light, but it's simply not true.. There is article after article on the web about how terrible the care is in Canada, Britain and France.. Those seem to be the big three examples.

One thing I never thought of-how does child birth work in a socialist system? There's pretty much no waiting until there's room for you on that issue..

Midwives and lots of luck if there is a serious problem or a breech birth.

Premature or multiple births are usually major problems for a single midwife but some are very good at delivering multiple babies.

The rate of birth death's due to complications that are easily handled in a hospital delivery room will increase dramatically .America will sink to the level of China or Africa in the infant mortality index .
