Bubba is on VACATION. Miz Bubba and I are at the beach, specifically Edisto Island SC. Hurricane Bill threw a few waves at the beach yesterday and on high tide ran water and sand onto Palmetto Ave, the beachfront road. Other than the high surf, no effect from Bill because it went way north of the SC coast.

No plans for this week, just hang out on The Island and chill. We may go into Charleston one day, and we may not: Charleston is very hot in August. The carrier Yorktown is there, and the destroyer Laffey. Both great historic ships. We've toured them both. I like to go often because seeing the ships is very interesting, and it helps the peservation effort.

Where I'm staying on the island has no internet connection so I drive down here near the Piggly Wiggly grocery store where I can get a signal.

TOTD: Grocery Stores. Piggly Wiggly is a store chain here in the South. I also shop at Ingles. What's your usual and/or your favorite grocery store. I love Publix but the nearest one to home is about 60 miles.

Alternate TOTD: Vacations. Where do you like to go?

Another TOTD: Do you plan vacations to the hour or do you hang loose and play it by ear? (Ginger, I think we qall know your answer.)

It's hot. My dog is driving me insane.I'm leaving for the office shortly. Life sucks.

TOTD: I don't even think there are any Piggly Wiggly's left around here. I shop at Publix. I go to Winn Dixie for the buy one get one sales too.

You know you get a TOTD every week, right? You don't need to have three.

Gee. You've gotta go to work and I'm on vacation. Wish there was something I could say to make you feel better.

Hot in the Mid-South today with a thunderstorms a possibility.

TOTD: Publix is my favorite too. Unfortunately, none are in this area so I usually go to Kroger.

TOTD II: Usually end up somewhere where the sand, golf and water are at. I like St. Augustine, Sandestine and Biloxi. Biloxi was the place last vacation. Just my brother and went on a long weekend of eating unhealthy food, playing golf and visiting the numerous casinos. A good time was had.

TOTD III: We try not to plan but some things (Tee times, Poker Tournaments) you have to work your day around if you want to do them.

I am going to the cemetery this am to check out the marker I had professionally cleaned and then off to the grocery store.

TOTD #1: Shop for meat at a local grocery store and canned goods at Walley Mart. Don't shop at P.W.

TOTD #2: I am going to the beach for the month of Sept. at Orange Beach AL

TOTD #3: Sometimes I plan going to the beach and other times I get a wild hair and just go. A number of years ago I decided to go to Pensacola Beach on July 4. Could not find any rooms. So, went to Destin FL. Same deal no rooms available. Hung out on the beach for 6 or 7 hours and drove back to Baton Rouge. A cheap 1 day vacation while driving 600 miles round-trip.

BTW: I like (3) TOTD's

I have heard of Kroger's but I don't think we have any around here. I've never heard of Ingle's.

I went to a "Paigly Waigly" (local pronunciation) when we were near Charleston on vacation, years ago. I think it was one of the earliest supermarket chains. I love Wegman's.

My usual place is Food Lion, but Harris Teeter is my favorite. Used to go to Target all the time, but now there's not one close. I refuse to go to Aldi or Kroger.

Kroger's and Piggly Wiggly's are distant memories for those in the STL area. The Kroger's here were dirty, nasty places. One time I reached for some cheese and a mouse ran near my hand. That was the last time I ever set foot in a Kroger's store. Not long after that, they all closed in this area.

Whole Foods is my favorite, but not for everything, too expensive. We have two good local chains, Schnuck's and Dierberg's, similar to some of the Publix I've seen in Florida, but I think perhaps a little larger and a little upscale. For bulk purchases we go to Costco's or Sam's.

We just returned from San Diego. I love Calfornia as a vacaton site, in fact prefer anywhere in the West for relaxation. I'm more into mountain, desert or combo ocean view on one sde, mountains on the other to beaches with the never ending condos.

SR and I don't plan vacations all that much, other than select the locaton, book the airline and hotel reservatons, then sort of play it by ear as to what we see. This time we even changed the hotel reservatons at the last minute.

When I lived in Gainesville I used to shop at the Fresh Market. That place was awesome.:D

I have an itinerary. All copies shall count as the original. Participants in the vacation have a chance to contribute to the itinerary and make adjustments to it...before we leave. Once we leave, it is set. in. stone.
But I do schedule at least 2 hours of "down time" during the week. They may or may not be consecutive.

The vacation sounds nice, mine last week was too short, but I have another one in a couple of weeks!

TOTD: I like Albertson's and I used to shop alot at Smith's (owned by Kroger's, they bought it from the Mormons) Smith's is closer, but the food quality is not always as good and they don't always have what I'm looking for. Albertson's has recently lowered prices and I'm always finding a good deal.

Albertson's used to be the parent company of Jewel/Osco but now they are owned by Supervalu.

I even worked in the deli of Jewel one winter, when I was not able to earn a check selling cars...had to pay the rent!

What were the other TOTD's????

TOTD: I have alot of places to see close to where I live, as I have not lived here that long. My next vacation will be in the Quad Cities where I used to live.

TOTD: The last vacation, I was the local host for an old friend of mine, we pretty much did what she wanted to do after my helpful suggestions. :p

We shop at several grocery stores - Giant Eagle because they have fuel perks - Aldis because they are dirt cheap - Jimmy & Nino's Italian market because they have cheeses and luncheon meats DIRT cheap - and BIGLots.

When we have the money - McGinnis sisters a local high end chain.

Hey everyone. It was overcast and dull here in New England today. Getting ready for the drive to northern NJ tomorrow morning early .

TOTD: For staples, e.g., cat food, paper towels, etc., we shop at the Big Y. For fresh foods we use Whole Foods. When I lived in FL, many years ago, I loved Publix.

The Italian market sounds interesting.

Aldis has a few good items that are priced very well. Great store also if you have kids. Same with Sav A Lot.

Jimmy & Nino's is interesting - and when I can get Boar's head luncheon meats for the same price I'd pay for average luncheon meats at the chain grocery . . . . and their bread is to DIE for . . . :)
