For many, the Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer. For others, it's a time to celebrate sweet delicious bacon! International Bacon Day is celebrated on the Saturday before Labor Day.

In 2009, International Bacon Day falls on September 5.

So how does one celebrate International Bacon Day.

The official International Bacon Day blog suggests eating bacon for breakfast, a BLT for lunch, and throwing a little bacon on the grill for dinner.

In between feedings, you can sit down and watch Kevin Bacon movies as you digest all that delicious fat and grease.

Perhaps you can decorate the house in Bacon decorations bacon pillows. You can even write down your thoughts about bacon in this lovely What Would Bacon Do?

Gee, SR really messed up International Bacon Day. He had Spam this morning with the eggs. :eek: Well, at least it was greasy, but was 25% less sodium. Of course, my perpetual taunt is "25% of what?". That stuff is death in a can. :D

Bacon tastes better and smells a whole lot better. I have a scented candle burning now to take away any lingering aroma of eau de spam. :p

At one time, the official explanation was that the name was a portmanteau of "Spiced Ham". According to the British documentary-reality show "1940's House", when SPAM was offered by the US to those affected by WWII in the UK, SPAM stood for Specially Processed American Meats.

Many jocular backronyms have been devised, such as "Something Posing As Meat", "Specially Processed Artificial Meat", "Stuff, Pork and Ham", "Spare Parts Animal Meat" and "Special Product of Austin Minnesota".[8]
