Register photo/ANNIE ZELM Jess Duttry, 19, holds a sign saying "I cheated. Honk if I deserve a second chance," along Perkins Avenue in front of the Kroger parking lot on Wednesday evening. Duttry held the sign out for every passer-by to read as a way to admit her mistake and show her regret about having cheated on her fiance earlier this summer.

It's the modern-day equivalent of the scarlet letter -- a young woman standing on the street corner with her mistake scrawled in black permanent marker.

"I cheated," her sign said in bold letters. "Honk if I deserve a second chance."

On the back, it read, "I honestly love him."

The woman stood on the curb of Perkins Avenue, in front of the Kroger parking lot, on a Wednesday evening with her plea.

Passing drivers beeped their support.

"I've gotten 57 honks in the last hour and a half," said Jess Duttry, 19, as her long black ponytail fluttered in the wind. "I've had people come out of their cars and hug me, tell me 'Good luck.'"

The Sandusky High School graduate said Wednesday was her one-year anniversary with her fiance, and he took back the ring that same day after she confessed to having cheated earlier this summer. She said she got the idea for her act of repentance online.

"I just want a chance to redeem myself," she said. "I honestly feel bad. If I have to stand out here in the rain for him to take me back, I will."

Does she deserve a second chance?

I'm not sure. It's hard to tell what her figure is like in that picture!

I'd leave her on the curb.

This was done here in the DC area recently and turned out to be a radio gag. Is the same thing happening here? It sounds extremely similar. It was done in "other radio markets" as well, so this may be another example.

Well, let's pretend it's true. Would this public humiliation stunt make you take back a wayward lover?

I would want any betrayal/forgiveness process to be private. Taking it public would be fatal.

Fatal to the process and the decision, Rock. You can relax.

I could never take back a cheater... The trust would never be the same and from then on, everytime I look at her I would see that guy pumping away at my Girlfriend/Wife..

It just wouldn't work.

You know what they say: Once a cheater, always a cheater.

Nor could I, but it would be fun being on the receiving end of the penance.

What penance would you inflict upon the evil unfaithful sinner ?

This is what gets me about some poeple saying, "I really love him/her".

Then why friggin' cheat on them?!

I once worked with a guy who decided to ask his longtime g/f to marry him. After 6 months of marriage they were back to the bar scene, in seperate bars mind you. I asked him, why get married? His reply, I though we would change.

No second chance after that stunt. Minus the stunt.. yes, depending on the circumstances.

Honestly I couldn't say yes or no without knowing the person or the circumstances.

I'd have to cheat on her to get "even".
And since I'm never satisfied with "even", I'd have to cheat on her multiple times.

So what would be the point in taking her back?

"Take her back". Milk it for all it's worth while she still feels guilty, then dump her.

I keep score on EVERYTHING.

Waste of good energy. What's past is past so I tend to let it stay there, otherwise it gives other people more control of me that I want them to have.
