This is the hard lesson some students at Fenger High School have to deal with after a day of learning. For them it's a hard lesson of reality on the streets.

Thursday after school, two rival gangs got into a fight three blocks from the high school.

In all four students were beaten in that melee -- one was released from the hospital Friday morning.

While police continue their investigation, some students say they don't want to go back to Fenger next week.

Rival gang members have been fighting for a month -- and each time one of their fellow classmates is injured.

No knives and no guns were used in Thursday's fight. Just fists, feet and boards.

Derrion Albert, 16, was struck in the head by one of those boards.

Seconds later the honor student hit the pavement. That’s when witnesses, who are other high school students, say gangbangers began stomping on and punching Albert.

Derrion Albert's mom said witnesses told her he was "trying to help another student and kind of got mixed in with the crowd of the fight and he was hit.”

A senior who witnessed the whole thing says the melee lasted less than five minutes.

The video shows students and workers from a nearby community center rescue the boy -- but many out there knew it was too late.

Surveillance videos are mounted on businesses in the Roseland area, but Chicago Police say those don't show faces.

Police have a copy of this footage and it may help identify Albert's killers.

But while that investigation goes on, students say they will remember Derrion Albert as a good kid. A quiet, smart kid with no gang affiliation. But just a kid who may not have had enough street smarts to go another way.

If you can identify any of the people allegedly involved in the death of Derrion Albert, please call Area Two of the Chicago Police Dept. That number is 312-747-8272.

I'm all for it. The city can dump millions into renovations and improvements and the merchants can make out like champs. I can work from home the entire time and use the Olympic traffic as an excuse.

Why not Chicago, it's a great city.

GO OBAMA!

If it makes Chicago recover, then more power to him!! But if it's just a one-time boon to the local economy while raising the murder expectation worldwide, then fuh-get it....

I've been to Germany, and their Olympic stadium pretty much stands in ruins, and it doesn't really do much for the region today...

I wouldn't get your hopes up. My money is on Rio. South America has never hosted an Olympics and they'll get the fairness nod.

It'll be good for the southeast part of Michigan, too. Berrien County is a 2 hour train ride away, and it's hotels are cheaper. There are some great beaches in that area.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. My money is on Rio. South America has never hosted an Olympics and they'll get the fairness nod. It's a toss up .Rio has as much crime as Chicago and the safety of all of those young kids would be in question at either place .

If they land in Rio those AID'S infected hookers and working trannies will sweep the field .All of our top rated porn stars have died of AIDS picked up in Brazil making X rated video's !

Prostitution is legal and Brazil has 730,000 cases of HIV Positive/AIDS cases at the end of 2007 .Crimes and sky high murder rates .

....................................

If those European kids land in Chicago we will see a big boost in muggers and hookers flooding into the city .The black street gangs will have a field day knocking off those young blond Scandinavian female athletes and grabbing their booties .Street prices will go through the roof there will be several mugging murders with so much money flouted around the hoods .

I think Munich will hold that record for a long time to come.

Probably so, but of all the cities in America, I can't understand why they would choose Chicago.. I'll admit that I'm not the most well-versed on just what the Olympics does for a city, but I can't imagine the effects being too long-term. That being the case, it would seem that we would want to show the world one of our more beautiful and peaceful cities, not this:

What would you suggest?

Every metropolitan area has crap like that. St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, LA, DC, New Orleans, you name it, it's all got it's shit hole element.

The only cities have have the resources to host something as large scale as the Olympics will have a seedy side. There is no getting around it.

Hell, my small town of Lawrence, Ks had big gang fights back in my day. As mentioned, they take place everywhere.

Of the big cities, Chicago is one of the best run and most clean. It has its bad areas, just as any large city does, but they aren't going to put the Olympians in the ghetto.

Where in the US would you put the Olympics where you're so sure no crime exists?

Yeah, you're probably right.. I have to admit to not knowing much about Chicago, and, of course, all we hear about it is negativity in the news.. The stuff that is good or wholesome isn't newsworthy because that's not what sells papers..

For some reason when i think of a great place to show the world, Aspen comes to mind.. Probably too small and exclusive to host the Olympics, though.

Chicago seems like a good choice given we have one of the largest airports in the country right here (O'Hare). We also have another really big modern airport a few miles away, and within Chicago city limits, Midway. Between the two of them they can handle a lot more traffic than most other cities. That probably plays into it.

We also have areas just outside of the city where they can build an Olympic Center. I doubt they'll build it downtown as real estate is at a premium down here.

As for the cost vs. the economic gains... it's probably a wash at best. Who knows. But I know there are lots of local businesses that would love to have that revenue about now.

This is Obama's meal ticket for the rest of his life.. The land needed for the Olympics is all owned by the crooked bastards that Obama has run with for years and whom will give him $50 million a year in retainers... Obama will become a billionaire by bringing the Olympics to Chicago...

Obama knows the fix is in, or he wouldn't be headed over there..

Chicago has a lot of things that make it suitable for the Olympics. They have a very efficient public transportation system, which is the envy of those of us in metro Detroit who wish we had a train to take into town for games and concerts. They have universities and stadiums that can be used for some events. Chicago has enough hotels and restaurants for everyone to make some money during the Olympics.

I feel badly for Chicagoans, with the crime problems they've been having lately. I hope they do a better job of addressing it in Detroit, especially the child/teen murder rate. This is what cut the heart out of Detroit in the 80s, when the decline was in it's early stages.

Michelle Obama Will 'Take No Prisoners' in Pushing Chicago for 2016 Olympics

She's got game. And First Lady Michelle Obama, leaving tonight for Copenhagen to lobby for Chicago's 2016 Olympics bid, is cranking it up, promising to "take no prisoners" in her quest to beat Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Madrid.

Mrs. Obama offered up some good-natured G-rated trash talk about Chicago's rivals when she met with a group of reporters on Monday to discuss Friday's vote by the International Olympic Committee to pick the 2016 host city.
"It's a battle.

We're going to win," she boasted Monday with bravado -- and good humor. "Take no prisoners."
