Yeah, but you still live in a swamp both politically and in terms of natural geography. That entire area was riddled with malaria until they drained it. :D

96 DEGREES HERE YESTERDAY!!! So far this fall, we've only seen one cold front...which knocked temps to the mid 80s for one day. I can't wait for fall weather to arrive.

Wednesday Saw Record Temps in Winter Haven; May Repeat Today

THE LEDGER

Published: Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 7:52 a.m.

Winter Haven set a record on Wednesday. It could repeat that feat today as could Lakeland.

The record is dubious, however. After all, after months of summer temperatures, a little cooling off would be welcome.

But Wednesday saw a high of 96 degrees in Winter Haven, besting the record of 94 degrees for that day set in 1986, according to Logan Johnson, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

The record high for today in Winter Haven also is 94 degrees, while for Lakeland the record high is 92 degrees set in 1989. Both records are in jeopardy, Johnson said.

Abnormally high temperatures, about 5 to 7 degrees above normal for this time of year, is because of a strong high pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This system is causing the hot, dry temperatures Polk and the rest of Central Florida is experiencing, Johnson said.

Edit, 10pm: Reached a high of 95 today! On the W coast, a Tampa suburb (Wesley Chapel) reach 97 and on the southern side of the bay (Ellenton), there was a high of 98! The forecast for the next three days calls for 95, 94, & 94...the average is 85.
