Gaza City zookeepers have found a creative way of drawing crowds to their dilapidated zoo - by painting their donkeys.

The Marah Land Zoo's only two zebras died of hunger earlier this year when they were neglected during the Israel-Hamas war. The popular animals were too expensive to replace, so the keepers decided to design a pair of donkeys with black and white patterns instead.

Ahmad Barghouti says a professional painter used French-manufactured hair coloring to make the donkeys look like zebras.

It would take more artistic skills to convert a rhino or hippo to an elephant. :p

BTW, our babies, Jade and Malea, now weigh 1500 and 2000 pounds respectively. The frst baby at our zoo, the father of the two lttle girls, now varies from 8,900 pounds to 10,000 pounds. It seems when the former bouncing baby boy now swings 1,000 pounds here or there due to whether or not he's in musth (full blown condition when he wants to breed NOW!). He gets all jittery and excited and paces a lot more, losing the weight.

We might have two more babies. Seems Raja bred two more of our elies. He's been a busy boy. :D

Glad it's all going well, I remember when we were all awaiting the birth!
