According to reports, Hamid was yelling "Allah is power" and "Islam is great" while holding a pen in a fist over his head and witnesses said he had been shouting anti-Christian comments.

Pleaanton Police Lt. Mike Elerick said the man was not provoked and didn't threaten violence, but he committed robbery when he grabbed and broke a crucifix off a man's neck.

hmmm .... Muslim guy runs through the mall shouting anti-Christian hate speech.
He threatens people and yanks and steals a crucifix off a mans neck.

Think he'll be charged with a hate-crime? hmmmm ..... I'm doubting it.

I don't believe in 'hate crimes' ... a crime is a crime as far as I'm concerned.
But 'hate crime' is on the books and I'm wondering if anyone will prosecute him for it.

It sounds more like a case for thorazine and a straight jacket than for prison. Luckily, he didn't hurt anyone and wasn't armed with a real weapon, which is what leads me to believe it is a case of mental illness, not acutal criminal intent.

If he's deemed crazy he goes to shrink prison. If not crazy, regular prison.

A pen is a real weapon, I have seen people almost killed with pens. Someone comes at me or my family with a pen like that and I gotta do what I gotta do.;)

Yes ... a possible hate crime.
But they didn't have it for sure as a charge.
I'm thinking .... not.

Exactly. They have those prisons in most states. That way they don't get beaten and killed by the sociopaths.
