America will not try to contain a rising China, Barack Obama, the US president, told an audience in Japan on Saturday on the eve of his first visit to the world’s most populous nation.

Speaking during the first leg of his inaugural visit to Asia , which will include stops in Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul, Mr Obama said the US did not view China as a threat.“On the contrary, the rise of a strong, prosperous China can be a source of strength for the community of nations,” Mr Obama said in his Tokyo speech.

Giving the only keynote speech of his seven-day tour of Asia, Mr Obama sketched out a roadmap for America’s re-engagement with the region after the perceived neglect of the Bush years. He said the US would seek China’s cooperation in tackling the world’s biggest problems, such as climate change, nuclear proliferation and global economic imbalances.

Mr Obama, who spoke at the large Suntory auditorium in central Tokyo to an audience of 1,500 Japanese dignitaries and members of the general public, depicted a world in which America benefited from – rather than felt threatened by – the emergence of a strong China on the global stage.

His remarks struck an emollient contrast to George W. Bush’s depiction of China as a “strategic competitor” shortly after taking office in 2001.

Mr Obama did make an obligatory reference to human rights – but in a strikingly lower-key way than his predecessor. Nowhere in the speech, for example, did he mention Tibet, a neuralgic issue for Beijing.

Wait, THOSE are the "world's biggest problems"? Climate change is nothing but mother nature's natural changes being turned into a fake cause celeb in an attempt to grab power by the left, and China will have no part of it. Nuclear Proliferation is somewhat of a threat, but China again isn't going to do much about it. And "global economic imbalances"??? As in "Oh, evil America is too prosperous, and we need to cut back out prosperity so that poor but growing China can have more resources?" Those are the big 3 problems Obumbler wants to get help with from China???

Finally, the idiot says all of these things not in China itself, but in Japan... who don't get along well with China and who see China as a growing economic competitor and a supporter of North Korea. Did the Obumbler completely forget where he was, caring only about setting up his next day's meeting with China at the expense of saying exactly the wrong things to the Japanese audience in front of him? This fool just keeps making rookie mistakes, and probably alienated the Japanese with his praise of the ChiComs...
