Ryan Nettleton was serving his second tour in Iraq when he learned his police officer brother Trevor had been shot and killed Thursday in Las Vegas.

Without sleeping or showering, the 26-year-old specialist from Tacoma flew to Kuwait, then Washington, D.C., then Washington state.

Upon landing Saturday, he headed straight to Fort Lewis to pick up his dress blues so he could honor the older brother who inspired him to join the military.

Ryan Nettleton will wear his formal uniform Wednesday at a Mass for Trevor in Las Vegas. Family members rallied to raise money for him to fly to Nevada this afternoon.

“We need to pay our respects,” he said in an interview Saturday night. “Trevor said, ‘Family is everything,’ and he carried that out to the last minute of his life.”

A three-year veteran of Las Vegas Metro Police and a former Marine, Trevor Nettleton, 30, was killed in his garage during a botched robbery. Police are holding two teens and a 20-year-old man on charges of suspicion of murder and attempted robbery.

Trevor Nettleton left behind a wife, Danielle; and two young children, Quinn and Tanner.

“We come from a family of service members,” Ryan Nettleton said.

This is so sad. A Las Vegas police officer was killed at home. Three young gang bangers are in jail for it.
Officer Nettleton was a former Marine Honor Guard for President Bush.

Just curious, but what was the race of the teens and 20 year old man? I can see the authorities holding on to the names of juveniles but of a 20 year old? Was he named Dashawn or Dawud or Dre?

Where ever this "gang" likes to hang is the right place. The right place to erect a scaffold, call the media and alert the public, and have a 3 fer hanging within the week. Just long enough for a legitimate trial. Their friends should see how brave gang bangers are as they are dragged up the steps of the scaffold and a rope placed around their necks.

I'd pay money to watch them dance in the sky.

I sure hope the 17 year old is tried as an adult.

Some of the comments are pretty funny:

Condolences to the family and dept. The officer is a true hero. Unfortunately, society is only going to get worse...since ACORN can't possibly give jobs to ALL of these thugs.

This is all because "da man" been holding them back, not giving them the opportunities they are entitled to. Well, they sure have lived up to their potential now. Maybe when they get to prison they will run into their "real daddy".

It sounds like the officer these vermin killed lived and died with the honor and courage of a real man. RIP, brother.
