Whaling war erupts in Antarctic

AUSTRALIAN conservationists fear Japan has taken its aggressive defence of whaling slaughter to new intensity as the first shots in this year's Antarctic whale wars are fired.

It's called self defence. Stay away and the problem is solved.

The Sea Shepherd's Steve Irwin and a Japanese whale hunter on the Shonan Maru 2 exchanged high-powered water cannon salvos 1200 nautical miles south of Western Australia on Monday, The Daily Telegraph reports.

How DARE those Japanese defend themselves agianst the Guardians of Gaia?

Sea Shepherd leader Paul Watson said he believed Japan had put military personnel on board the Shonan Maru 2 and possibly other ships.

Good. With any luck he'll be stupid enough to try and board one....and his cohorts will be faced with loaded weapons.

Foreign flag ship. International waters.

The penalty for piracy is death by hanging.

"The Shonan Maru is bristling with defences and the crew are acting very military - the way they operate, the way they move about the ship is very different to past years,'' he said.

Translation: "Waaahhh we cant attack them anymore".........

"It has four sonic cannons this year, last year they had one. And there are spikes all along its side and netting to stop boarding."

There's a message there....if you have the brains to read it.

Mr Watson said the clash happened at about 2pm (AEDT) when he looped the Steve Irwin around an iceberg, did a figure eight out of view of the Shonan Maru 2 and re-emerged within a few hundred metres of the whaler.

..and knowing the predilection of his eco terrorist friends, the Japanese were intent on making sure you didnt get within distance.

If the Japanese really have weapons aboard ship.,..then Watson will be eating hot lead. :D

Mr Watson said Japan's whaling fleet has been expanded this year to four whale hunters, a factory ship, a supply ship, a spotting vessel and two "security vessels".The Shonan Maru 2 has been shadowing the Steve Irwin since the Sea Shepherd ship left Perth on December 9.

Guess what...they saw you.

A Japanese spotter aircraft has also been keeping constant surveillance.

There but for an artillery regiment,...

Last night, Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama told his counterpart Kevin Rudd that the Sea Shepherd's actions threatened the safety of the whaling fleet and requested Australia take appropriate action.

Dont count on that bozo to do anything..he's too busy with Obama's dick in his mouth,

It is believed that Mr Rudd responded by again threatening legal action against Japan over the hunt of whales if "a diplomatic resolution proves difficult'', echoing similar remarks he made last week in Australia.

...which mean jack and shit.

But Mr Watson launched a scathing attack on Mr Rudd and Environment Minister Peter Garrett.

...the Minister for bald heads , rock concerts and little else...

"They just lied to get elected. Japan just laughs at Australia. It's all talk and no action," he said.

Well., Ol' Baldy, y'see, using a AUSTRALIAN MILITARY ship against a foreign flag vessel in international waters has a name: ACT OF WAR.

Japan launches an annual flotilla to kill whales in the Southern Ocean south of Australia to outcry and physical opposition from conservation groups. The whales are used for food in Japan but Tokyo uses a loophole in an international moratorium that allows whaling for "scientific research".

Cue the lawyers....

Despite assurances by the new centre-left Japanese Government that it would not kill humpbacks, Mr Watson said the species was listed on the whalers' permit. "I've seen the permit and it lists 935 minke whales, 20 fin whales and 50 humpbacks," he said.

Tough shit

I have to admit something awful...I like watching Whale Wars on Animal Planet.

I love watching whales get harpooned....I love watching the hippies cry when one of the whales bleed like a stuck pig....I especially love watching the hippies get hurt......I hate Paul Watson and his Sea Cucumbers

I like the show also. It is a pretty action packed show. It would be cool if NatGeo or Discovery did something similar with the pirates off Somalia.

I love the episode when the Japanese started throwing bolts and nuts at them. I was laughing so hard. I still think the Japanese should have take the one guy that boarded their ship to Japan for trial instead of stopping in Australia.

I'm no eco terrorist sympathizer, but I hate the fucking whalers.

Hard to believe there is anyone on this site of revelation and reality based thinking that doesn't.

I hate whalers. Then again, I've never tasted whale meat.;)

I believe whole heartedly in killing it if you're gonna eat it, but I think most hunters are the best conservationists. Most of us don't think you should kill anything you're not gonna eat, and even then, don't hunt them out of existance. Unless it's a coyote or bobcat, they prey on young deer.

I'm not really sympathetic to whalers, I'm more sympathetic to the whales. I don't have a problem with hunting, I just don't see what the point is in hunting a whale.

But I agree about hunters being strong conservationists. Half the point of hunting is enjoying the outdoors. No hunter wants to be chasing a deer and come across a pile of someone else's trash, or find water in a stream that's been contaminated by a nearby chemical factory.

The Japanese probably eat every part of a whale! They eat just about anything from fish, even fish hat can kill you! Let em have em!

Considering the Japanese are hunting whales that they do eat, I eat I have no problem with it, What I do have a problem with is all these assholes who think it barbaric just because blood makes them squeamish trying to stop people from hunting. Any kind of hunting.

I'm sure it tastes horrible. Whales are pretty ugly. The cuter animals taste best. That is why veal tastes better than beef. I am sure that baby harp seal is delicious.

In my 7 years there, I only know of one place that served it. A fast food joint in Hokkaido that served whale burgers. It's probably more popular down south, but up north it wasn't that big.

Man kind has been hunting whales as long as we've been able to build boats. It's not necessary that we hunt deer anymore, yet we still do. Whales are animals, nothing more. It's a part of Japanese culture, and they limit their whaling to species that have safe population numbers. They are under no legal obligation what so ever to limit their whaling like they do, but they do anyways so I say you should cut them some slack.
