Police: Man Bit Cop's Chest Outside Gold Coast Restaurant SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE

An off-duty Chicago Police officer was injured when he was allegedly bitten in the chest by a Hazel Crest man outside Gibsonís Bar and Steakhouse in the Near North Side Gold Coast neighborhood Sunday night, police said.
About 9:30 p.m. the off-duty officer became involved in a dispute with a 31-year-old man outside Gibsonís, 1028 N. Rush St., according to a police report.

Near North District officers who were already in the area saw a disturbance and a struggle, during which the officer identified himself as police but the other man continued to refuse ďverbal commands,íí and bit the officer, prompting responding officers to deploy a chemical spray at him, the report said.

The officer suffered swelling and cuts to eye along with a severe bite to the nipple. An ambulance transported the officer to Northwester Memorial Hospital where he was treated by a doctor who later said the(COP) victim lost a body part because of severe damage from the bite, according to the report.

The suspect suffered cuts and bruising to the face area and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment, the report said.

During the struggle, the 31-year-old man allegedly grabbed the officer's holster, according to the report.Officers tried several times and eventually placed the man, believed to be from Hazel Crest, into custody. Charges were pending at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
