There was a small, nay exclusive, gathering of the British CUers today. Hamps and I went to see the The Real Van Gogh: The Artist and His Letters exhibition (http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/vangogh/exhibition/) and very good it was too.

Sadly the queue in Fortnum and Mason was too long so we couldn't go for a late afternoon tea so after a spot of shopping we went via Piccadilly Circus

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/flitton/general/tex071.jpg

to the Texan Embassy for some Tex Mex food. There we were charmed by the authentic Texan decor. :D

Good time was had by all.

There was no hanky panky, just art appreciation and an enjoyable retrospective of the last week in US politics.

It was a jolly good meetup. The Van Gogh exhibition was excellent. I had no idea of the range of his work until today.

Fortnum & Mason opposite ... what can one say, it's another art form. Probably the world's most beautiful food store. Some amazing things on show, like the three-deck wedding cake for a mere 1450, olive oil for 50 for a tiny amount, all manner of fine things.

I knew I could not walk away without buying something. I shall post a piccy of what I got tomorrow.

Vincent's letters to Theo are amazingly sensitive and introspective.

I love Van Gogh.

Don McLean (American Pie) did a song about him called Vincent.

Van Gogh is ok...

Try Monet or Renoir.

Monet. (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=monet&gbv=2&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g10)

Renoir. (http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&hl=en&sa=1&q=+Renoir&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0)

I was born and raised in Texas...Why do I know art?

Yes, a wedding cake. And your point is? :p

Anyway, this is what I purchased yesterday from this fine store:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h281/hampshirebrit/DSC02079.jpg

7 fl oz of EVOO with red chilli, chilli seeds, a cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, thyme, a bayleaf, sichuan pepper, star anise and a large garlic clove, all in a pleasingly heavy glass bottle.

As long as you use the oil it's okay, but if you leave it set around as a knicky knack to be dusted every week, well thats different.:D

It is partly decorative, but as Bijou pointed out yesterday, I should use the oil and then refill it with regular EEVO. I have to say, when I uncorked it just now, it smelled rather fine, too nice not to use.

I love London, one of my favorite cities in the world. Denver Broncos play there next season. I may use that as an excuse to go back. My wife hails from those parts and wants to check back in with family.

I buy my olive oil by the gallon from an Arab grocery in Tulsa. I also buy my beans and lentils there. They have a huge selection, cheap!

After you use it, why don't you experiment with other herbs in EEVO. I'll try to find an article that I had saved from the STL Post Dispatch on various EEVO recipes. I meant to experiment in the fall, before all my herbs froze outside in my herb pot.

That bottle is gorgeous, but then I collect glass, like Baccarat, Lalique, etc. Sounds crazy, but would love to visit the Corning Glass Museum in New York.

The bottle top? Possibly so, although it's debatable. Personally, I think the bottle would look better with a more plain stopper.

It doesn't scream "ghey", but then, it doesn't scream "streyht" either. At least the ribbon is black rather than pink, no?

Hey Megi, do you like the works of Vincent Van Gogh? The exhibition was rather fine.

This thread will not end well for Hamps bottle. :D

You need to do what we do, SLW got a pretty expense bottle of Olive Oil
called ollo from Australia. She got it on sale somewhere and it's really good
olive oil in a manly looking bottle. :D

We got the Fresh & Fruity one on the left.

Now that we finished it, I just bought a small jug of olive oil from Costco
and we refill the bottle!!!

The 'swishie' side of your nature is of interesting don't you think?
