The Federal interagency community has developed fifteen all-hazards planning scenarios (the National Planning Scenarios or Scenarios) for use in national, Federal, State, and local homeland security preparedness activities.

The Scenarios are planning tools and are representative of the range of potential terrorist attacks and natural disasters and the related impacts that face our nation.

The objective was to develop a minimum number of credible scenarios in order to establish the range of response requirements to facilitate preparedness planning.....snip

Scenario 1: Nuclear Detonation 10-kiloton Improvised Nuclear Device 1-1
Casualties: Deaths,Hundreds of thousands
Infrastructure Damage:Total within radius of 0.5 to 3 miles
Evacuation/Displaced Persons:100,000 in affected area seek shelter in safe areas (decontamination required for all before entering shelters) 250,000 instructed to shelter-in-place as plume moves across region(s) 1 million+ self-evacuate from major urban areas
Contamination:Various levels up to approximately 3,000 square miles
Economic Impact:Hundreds of billions of dollars

Economic Impact:..Billions of dollars

Scenario 3: Biological Disease Outbreak ---Pandamic Influenza
(IMHO..We've Already Had this one but it failed ,H1N1?)

Casualties:...At a 15% attack rate.
87,000 Fatalitys,
300,000 hospitalised.
Infrastructure Damage:none
Evacuation/Displaced Persons:shelter in place quaranten required.
Contamination:Isolation of exposed persons.
Economic Impact:$87 to $203 Billion
Potential For Multiple Events:World Wide attack .
Recovery Timeline:several months .
