Waitress Marilyn Hollenback reportedly laughed for 20 minutes when a customer in the dinner announced that he had just hit a kangaroo with the pickup truck. Tulsa, Oklahoma, was an unlikely place to meet a kangaroo running wild.

Two Tulsa police officers also listened to the manís story. He had seen two of the creatures, he said, and on swerving to avoid one he had hit the other. The dead kangaroo was in his truck. Hollenback and the officers went to look, and there lay a three-and-a-half-foot-long kangaroo. Having satisfied his skeptical audience, the man climbed back into his truck and drove away

The incident took place on August 31, 1981. Later, patrolman Ed Compos commented ruefully that he wished he had taken a picture of the animal. This was by no means the only occasion that someone had seen a wild kangaroo in the United States, but it was the only time that anyone had actually managed to catch one.

Weighing as much as 220 pounds and measuring up to five feet in height, kangaroos can reach speeds of 25 miles per hour in bounds that cover more than 30 feet at a time. But wild kangaroos are believed to live only in Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, and a few other islands.

Wonder how they taste! :D

I have heard they are a little gamier than a buck deer. my wife wouldn't eat one, she says they look like big rats. There is a lady that has a whole mess of them in Bixby. They live with Sammy the Pepsi drinking camel.

Are they kosher?

I'm not jewish, but it's good to know in case I come across kangaroo meat and have to prepare it for a potluck or something.

I think they chew a cud but I don't think they split the hoof. I'm guessing 'not kosher'.
