Take a look at the progression of unemployment by county (http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html) and how it changed within a couple years. Watch how it takes off once Obama takes office and the so called stimulus is passed.

Thanks for the update; someone had posted it before and it only went up to Oct. '09, and I had forgotten the source. The plains states are relatively unscathed; presumably people had already gotten the hell out of there, so everyone who remains is sufficiently employed.
