I am about to join the Army!!!

Monday morning I'll be up bright and early at the MEPS in Fort Lee VA, as I will be sworn into the Army :bounce: Last summer i had actually started processing for the Navy Reserve, but the recruiter was quite flakey, and the Navy didn't have any good job openings at all (not even for OCS applicants).

So why would I want to join the Army? having grown up as a military dependent, it feels very odd not to be moving every few years. Now I am currently working at Best Buy, and honestly I really like the company as a whole (and my co workers even more than that). Plus I just finished my college algebra course, which will allow me to finally complete my undergrad degree in International Studies. So I had several ways to go forward, and I decided that I'd look good in uniform :-)

My contract won't be finalized until the guidance consuelor and I meet Monday, but I am looking at starting as an IT Specialist (25b), then going for becoming an officer. I'm 37, so it'd be easier and quicker to enlist first, then with my degree work towards OCS. I've been working out and running since September--I;m 5 foot 10, 205 :-) My running time is pretty good, and I'll use the time left until I ship to keep improving on ir. So I'm really excited to be serving my country, and no amount of Fox "News" and those stupid ass tea party rednecks will stop me.

20. At first opportunity use your military experience to jump ship to Blackwater

or whatever they call themselves now. Gather all the dirt you can and write a tell all book. Rake in million, evade the assassins and buy an Island somewhere!

and this

129. You apprently have not been in the military. He would not be anything if it didn't support the

mission, which, lately, is to engage in wars of choice that act out self-fulling prophecies that kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people. There is no expectation that any of that will change - EVER - so . . . what goes around comes around, America.

classy people...

27. Thanks man!!!

I'll make you all proud of me! :-)
Surprisingly quite a few thank him and have positive things to share. Is this a change because it's Obama in charge now?

37, enlisted, then OCS. Not likely. With his politics he will struggle even harder. Not that he has a minority opinion, just that liberals like him don't get along well when they open their huge pie holes.

5'10" and 205? Good thing he's not joining the AF I guess. That'll get you kicked out pretty quickly here.

Hmmmmmm, a 37y/o liberal recruit with a 25y/o DI? Ought to be fun. Maybe he just couldn't make it as a 37y/o kollege edukated stock boy at Best Buy. Maybe he's gay and wants some life in the barracks.

Still, finishing his undergrad at 37 shows that this guy really, really has a firm handle on where he wants to go in life........http://users.mo-net.com/mcruzan/avatars/laugher.gif

Lots'O'Luck DUmmie......:D

Or maybe he wants to serve and decided that even at 37, he has what it takes. Can we leave this kind of thing to the DUmmies, please?

In all fairness his own arguments for enlisting revolved around his dislike of his current job, he likes to move a lot and thinks he'd look good in a uniform. There's not much there to warrant a lot of praise. The fact he is enlisting is a big plus, but his rationale does nothing for him.

As with all things, the day he steps off the bus, and meets his DI, all that will change. He will find a purpose...or find himself on the way out.

The acid test will tell.

*shrugs* As long as he's not doing it to make some political statement by not showing up for deployment or something like that, I don't give a damn what his rationale is. I'm proud that he wants to serve, even if it's more a last resort for him.

Clown, that's not fat.. If he has any muscle at all, he'll pass the tape test.... At 5'6", my limit was 180...(in the Army, though, not the pussy Air Force) 5'10" is an easy 205...

He's allowed to weigh 191 at his height by AF standards, but a simple tape test will get him through, provided he's got any kind of neck... (Max is 189 in the Army)

The only problem I have with the post is the way he says he's going to serve his country, and no Tea Bagger is going to stop him.. This just doesn't even sound coherent... Libs loathe the military, right up to Obummer...

It has been many years, 37 to be exact, but I remember my first day quite vividly. You are absolutely correct.

The measuring tape was the only way I ever stayed in. I was never over by much, 6-10 pounds but I could never make weight. I always passed with flying colors with the tape. The PT test was never a problem as I would always max the push-ups and run. Only scored 300 in the test once.

I always had my squad doing push-ups on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Every 30 minutes from work call until the end of day formation we would drop and do 20. Everyone in my squad would max the push-up portion of the AFPT. I had a female in my squad and she could max the male standard in the push ups.

Pussy Air Force? Let me lay this out for you bub.

Army Fitness Standards for someone my age. 22-26 year olds.

Pushups: 40 Reps in 2 minutes.

Sit Ups: 50 Reps in 2 minutes

Run: 16:42 Two Mile Run time

You have to meet those to pass.

Air Force Minimum Fitness Standards for 20-30 year olds. (covers a much wider age group so for those 27-through 30 year olds who get slacker standards in the Army)

Push Ups: 33 in 1 minute

Sit Ups: 42 in 1 minute

Run: 1.5 Miles in 13:36

Now those three standards for the Air Force, you have to meet. You don't meet one of those you automatically fail. It doesn't stop there though. Just meeting those minimums will still cause you to fail. In order for me to pass the AFPFT, I would pretty much have to meet the Army Push Ups, and Sit Ups, in HALF the time they have to, and do their run time, while maintaining a 36" waist or better.

Our standards are now tougher then the Army's.

And by the way, the AF doesn't do tape tests, so a "simple tape test" wouldn't mean squat. They do that in the Army, hence my comment on him being better off in the Army.

Honestly, a troofer calling me a clown.
