Spent the last couple of days at Gleneagles in Scotland, on a work-related event.

Sometimes work is pretty good.

I did something I've been wanting to do for a while:

That's an Arabian Golden Eagle. I didn't get to fly this one, but they did let us fly Harris Hawks. A friend has some pics of me with the hawk and I'll post them when he sends them to me.

There's something amazing about doing this that's quite hard to put into words. It really tugs at the heartstrings.

Yeah, sorry about that. Duty calls, of late.

If only work was always like this, I wouldn't mind so much. Still, with this, I can't complain, can I. Plus, Gleneagles is a great hotel, totally awesome.

Falconry is fascinating.

I saw a show on Georgia Public TV about someone doing falconry here in Georgia.

I'd really like to see those photos Hamps. :)

I'm a Falcons fan....:D

What an experience! You actually got to fly the Harris hawk? I've had the jesses secured around the falconry glove, but the zoo won't let us fly them. I'm jealous. :D

Isn't it the most amazing experience when they spread their wings when you're holding them? It's impossible to explain the exhiliration.

I flew it three times. The pic with the spread wings is of it returning and landing on my arm. You have it right, SLW, It is a great experience. It's hard to put into words exactly why that should be, but it is.

When the hawk lands on your arm, it's as if there's no weight at all, they have that much control in flight, you can barely feel it land at all. Yet, the guy said that the eagle could crush his arm if it was minded to, and looking at the talons, you know he's right about that.
