Official: '24' ends on Fox

After eight seasons, Fox’s “24” is coming to an end.
The groundbreaking action drama will air its final real-time episode in May, the victim of a confluence of circumstances: a swelling budget, declining ratings and creative fatigue.
Yet for fans of Jack Bauer, there remains hope. Studio 20th TV is developing a theatrical film that takes Bauer to Europe, and showrunner and executive producer Howard Gordon says other possibilities are being explored as well.

Repetition can only go so far. I loved the first few episodes, while the plots were original. But now....I agree, exit while you're ahead. But maybe they waited a couple of episodes too long.

Maybe a new series exposing the corruption of the current administration and Congress.

I expected this. Creative fatigue for sure.

One thing that has just bugged the chit out of me this season is that
black wire hanging out of Jack's ear. His anyone else noticed this. All
these years, Jack's been 'on com' with the little wireless thingie he puts
in his ear. All the rest on the show this season have the wireless ear
pieces -- yet this season they have Jack running around with an old
style Nokia looking black wire hanging out his ear with the little
speaker bulb in it. That prop just bugs me really bad.

Wait for the movie?

I was expecting this to happen this year with Bauer moving to Cali to live with his family before getting sucked in to help with the current crisis. 8 years is a good run for a TV show these days.

However this show lost it's oomph after season 3. Season 4 was just so-so. 5 & 6, it was showing signs of major decline. Season 7 stunk on ice. I think one of the problems is that they started killing off regular characters: George, Chapell, Nina(coincidentally IMO the show began it's decline at the time Jack whacked Nina), Sherry, Wayne and David Palmer, Bil Buchanan, Michele Dressler, Edgar, and then "killed" Tony off only to bring him back as a villain. That's a lot of major characters to bump off and keep a show going. I also think the show missed the boat on Jack's tribulations in China. A season of him trying to escape from China would have made for a great season.

The PC slant of the show was also a reason it died. Low ratings.

In 8 seasons, I've watched the show twice.

Up until about 3 years ago, I had never heard of it.

My mom watches it quite often, she will be sad.
