Original message A Question For Rushhttp://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/images/transparent.gif

I was sitting in my car while waiting for my fiancee to get out of a job interview. ( Did I tell you the job environment sucks? Hmmm...I just got a high paying tech job in Florida...) So I am listening to Rush to kill time and he's going off on Chris Matthews. Somebody should put up the money to have a debate between the two of them and give the proceeds to charity. Whatever you think about Tweety he's the greatest of debaters;(great huh?? Is this the same asshole who asked if it's illegal to call Terrorist Groups???) the rare person who can take either side of an argument and win. Who can forget the way he undressed Michelle Malkin coming from the left and Dennis Kucinich coming from the right (Sorry).

Anyway Rush was quoting Matthews as saying the progressive blogosphere for all its strengths doesn't do a good enough job in showing how the welfare state , i.e. Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, et cetera make America a more tolerable place(I believe he said Socialist) and in their absence we would have a society like Calcutta where you have to walk over beggars and sick and dieing people to get to work. That sounds like a compelling case to me. Rush then said that those on the left have to hide their true intentions to get elected and if Obama ran on a platform of expending the welfare state he would have got 30% of the vote.

I would ask Rush if McInsane/Failin ran on a platform of dismantling the welfare state what percentage of the vote does he think they would get? My hunch is < 20%

I'll have to use Will Pitts new favorite thingy...<FacePalm> :D

How about open debate on DU first; then we can build from there.

BTW, I've seen Matthews' show; he never lets anyone he disagrees with answers any of his questions, then he " answers" for them because they couldn't get a word in :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I heard the dems are going to run on the dead-horse platform of "blame Bush" again...

and I missed the first part of Something that happened in San Fran, but he was sure fired up about it.

Missed the Matthews' comment completely...:o

I hope they do use that platform because the independents will see right through that. The Republicans would be smart to run on a platform of making mistakes in the past but that the troubles we're in is what happens when you compromise.
