Megan Fox hot in a Red Sonja outfit...check
Megan Fox's IQ level low enough to play a barbarian......check
Megan Fox's muscle density enough to wield a bastard sword.......meh

Two out of three isn't bad.

It's around 45 F and it's wet - sodden, actually.

TOTD: I don't care. I love those Conan movies (the soundtrack is awesome, if you've never noticed). I just wish they'd make some new movies that are watchable.

Yeah... that just made the movie unwatchable for me. Note to Hollywood. Doesn't matter how nice an ass is. If she's still dumber then a box of rocks in the sun, she ain't selling me a ticket.

The Original Conan the Barbarian movie that Arnold starred in is one of the best sword and sandal movies ever done. The three main Characters were played by a body builder, a dancer and a surfer (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sandahl Bergman, and Gerry Lopez) who basically had no acting chops. The real actors in the film were James Earl Jones, Max von Sydow and Mako and most of the dialog was spoken by them. The movie had long stretches, minutes long where no dialog was spoken and the action was driven by the soundtrack and the actors' presence. While Arnold, Sandahl and Gerry were not truly actors, they all had charisma. Director John Milius knew how limited the lead actors were and created a near masterpiece with what little he had to work with. Some of the major scenes involved minimal if any dialog at all. The opening scene where Thulsa Doom beheads Conan's mother, Conan discovering his sword in Crom's tomb, the infiltration and ensuing sword fight and massacre in the orgy pit/kitchen all took up great slices of time and all of them have very little spoken.

The Orgy Pit Massacre Scene is probably one of the best scenes ever filmed. It is about 12 minutes long and driven completely by the soundtrack. It goes through three different pieces of Basil Poledouris' music each building on the next as Conan and his fellow thieves sneak into the heart of Thulsa Doom's layer. The first music is as Conan and his companions are sneaking in. The second piece is when they reveal themselves and start hacking the followers and royal guard of Thulsa Doom to pieces in a violent and bloody battle and just as it looks like Conan is about to prevail, the heavy hitters show up. Warriors not unlike Conan himself who had already defeated him once and left him to die crucified to a tree. That is where the music changes once again, and as Conan and his enemies circle each other the soundtrack is letting everyone know, Oh yeah, this is going to get good. A marvelous piece of directing in this scene.

Rain, rain, and more rain. In between, a little more rain!

TOTD: Ed Wood's "Plan Nine From Outer Space" (http://www1.phillyburbs.com/zombies/plannine.shtml), with Béla Lugosi, cannot be made either better or worse. Impossible!

When the effects budget ran out, he covered a hubcap in lighter fluid, lit it, and tossed it in front of the camera. There have been men who made films for profit, there have been men who made films to exploit: Ed Wood made them because they were inside him, and needed to get out. That sincerity, in the face of total ineptitude, makes each one of his films something special. Bad, but special.

For those of you who can appreciate bad cinema, I envy you your first viewing of Plan 9. In a Nietzschian world of The Bungled and The Botched, Ed Wood was an achiever in a fuzzy Angora sweater.

The second movie while quite good was more tolerant of camp than the first one which was deadly serious.
