Okay - BEFORE YOU READ - what do you think of this story having just read the title?

State Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, has what some might call an impolitic attitude regarding his re-election in light of his recent dinner with a porn star.

"I don't need to get re-elected so bad that this is going to ruin my life," Koering said today when reached for comment. "As far as I'm concerned it's just dinner, and I don't see the big deal. I'm shocked.

"Here we've got 60,000 barrels of oil contaminating the Gulf of Mexico, and people are worried about who I go to dinner? Doesn't even make sense."

He's absolutely right.

But in the throes of great crises around which we can't wrap our minds, we crave the distraction of a porn star telling twitter.com about dinner with a politician at Iven's on the Bay in Brainerd, according to various media reports.

Brandon Wilde -- and it would be shocking to learn that's his given name -- began tweeting about their dinner before it occurred:

"lol so funny!! in 45 min's im going 2 go to dinner with the senator."

Koering told me, "I guess he tweeted about it. He's apologized to me about 20 times yesterday and I said, 'It's done. It happened.' He feels so bad about it. I said, 'Whatever.'"

The fact that Koering and Wilde are gay is not a big deal, but Brandon's porn connection is, to some.

A minnesotaindependent.com article states that a gay porn news website, The Sword, quotes Koering as saying: "Do I think that being a porn star is the best thing? No. But that's his choice. I think he's a nice guy."

Wilde has starred in films such as "My Brother's Hot Friend" and "Cruiser Boys," according to the minnesotaindependent.com, and he divides his time between Brainerd, Minn., and West Hollywood, Calif.

The website also quotes Minnesota state GOP chair Tony Sutton as saying the dinner showed poor judgment by Koering.

The question Koering did not raise during our interview is whether a heterosexual politician's dinner with a tweety porn star would have raised any eyebrows.

The answer: Oh yeah.

I didn't care one way or the other after reading the title, or the entire article. Are we supposed to feel differently?

I think that if your sink needs plunging it will probably get a better job done by a professional plumber than an amateur.

I think he meant what would be you're first reaction to the headline.

Personally, who really cares exept the bigots on the left. They had dinner, not slept together.

EXACTLY. And even if they did sleep together - so what?

pretty much, particularly since neither are married and both are openly gay.

I'm surprised little social mike hasn't commented on this post

Hey, as long as he paid for it and not the taxpayers, good for him. People should absolutely be free to eat dinner with, and sleep with, whomever they choose. It's actually quite sad this is "newsworthy."
