Prime Minister Julia Gillard has arrived at Parliament House to announce the 2010 Federal Election.
Ms Gillard is scheduled to hold a press conference in Parliament House at 12pm (AEST). Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will speak to the media soon after.
Earlier, Ms Gillard met with Governor-General Quentin Bryce at her residence in Canberra to receive permission to call the election.
The poll will be held on August 21, according to Sky News. This would mean a five-week campaign battle between a Prime Minister who has been in the hot seat for three weeks and Mr Abbott who is lagging in the polls.
