This was posted over at CC about a year and a half ago. Figured it would be good to have a whack at it here, see how people end up.

Not surprised. I'm like Milton Friedman's bastard child he never knew he had.

I always end up in about the same spot:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: 6.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.82

Economic Left/Right: 5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.21

I took a similar test recently with somewhat different results, some of the questions seemed to be slanted for a desired outcome or so it seemed.

It's definitely not a perfect test, but it seems to do well.

Have you got a link to the one you were talking about?

I'm trying to find it now but I am drawing a blank, I was much more libertarian when I took it.

I am trying to figure out why your attitude toward race would effect what part of the political spectrum you are in, I know racists and people with openness in every quadrant, that didn't sit right with me

Have you got a link to the one you were talking about? The fault I have with tests like these is they do not take into account - local vs federal. There are quite a few things I'm willing to tolerate at the local level that I am 1000% against at the federal level.

I am betting that they consider racist qualities to be right wing and that that would push you further right automatically.

*shrugs* Malloc hit the wall for the Right. He never struck me as the racist type.

It moved me two squares up and a square to the right. So yes they consider racism an attribute of the right and the authoritarian.Try it.

They also don't take into consideration situational things-not all corporations are bad, but some are.

I scored in the green part of the graph, with Nelson Mandela and the Dali Lama. So I got that going for me!

The numbers were:

Economic Left/Right: -4.25
Social liberatatian/authoritarian: -4.00

something I have noticed is that more often than not we allow the left to define the terms.

Who the hell came up with the questions on that thing? They are ridiculously slanted and leading. I had had enough halfway through the second page. WTF? Screw that.

Not at all. Many of the questions were asking the respondent to choose between quite finite options in response to many statements that contained preconceived notions and opinion from the get-go. To me it looked like the sort of poll Spazinicus would construct.

It's biased true - but it is far more accurate then the old left/right political line that so many people like to trot out.

For the record, this test is markedly 1-dimensional on several key points, and has a little bit of bias in it.

It's not only the overt bias, but it's the fundamentally flawed and leading/loaded "Do you still beat your wife?" types of questions.
