View Full Version : Tea Partiers headed to DC: watch out for unsafe areas - A Guide

Tea Party organizer and blogger Andrew Ian Dodge decided to write up a comprehensive guide for his fellow patriotic Real Americans on visiting their nation's capital. The Tea Party guide to Washington is filled with advice and, more than anything else, warnings about this scary mid-sized city of 600,000.

* On scary African people: "DC's population includes refugees from every country, as the families of embassy staffs of third world countries tend to stay in DC whenever a revolution in their homeland means that anyone in their family would be in danger if they went back. Most taxi drivers and many waiters/waitresses (especially in local coffee shops like the Bread and Chocolate chain) are immigrants, frequently from east Africa or Arab countries. As a rule, African immigrants do not like for you to assume they are African Americans and especially do not like for you to guess they are from a neighboring country (e.g. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia) with whom they may have political or military tensions."

He even includes a helpful map of unsafe and safe areas in DC:

my great grandmother was Cherokee. Does that make me Native American? How much blackness do you have to have to be African American. Where is the cutoff as to how to identify myself. Can you help me please.

And can you tell me why it is that the focus of race is so imporant an issue. Never once can I remember it being the subject of one of the tea parties, yet that's the first thing the left has noticed about them. Not the specific grievences....just the color.

The only racists are the ones who try the collectivist B.S. of lumping me into some catagory by some uncontrollable accident of my birth.

race isn't a real material thing. it's a social construct, but it is still real in a symbolic sense.

oh please. the post-racial "colorblind" perspective has been discredited all over the place. there are studies that show that people who claim to "not see race or take it into consideration" are usually most uncomfortable and have more problems interacting with members of other races.

this type of thinking is for 19 year old liberal college freshmen just out of the suburbs.

race is determined by culture, not so much by birth.

You really are an idiot. In every medium to large city in America, there are pockets of crime infested neighborhoods that you want to avoid. Prior to Katrina, New Orleans City Cops would not go into the Housing Projects at night unless they had at least 8-10 officers. Cities like Miami warns foreigners not to venture into certain areas after several German tourists were killed. Our State Dept. offers warning to Americans that travel to dangerous countries abroad.

My question to a partisan lefty like you is would you appreciate a warning of places to avoid if you were going to a strange city? Answer the question.

So you're agreeing that Somalis and Jamaicans do want to be considered African-Americans? Wow - total news flash for me. I don't know a single Somali, Ethiopian, Jamaican, or Haitian who identifies as or with African-Americans.

You're also agreeing that these people are perfectly okay with being misidentified as natives of just any old country? Really? Because in my experience people have pretty specific and reasonable expectations about being identified as natives of their own birth country.

Do you seriously think that D.C. doesn't have bad neighborhoods? Because all those congressional parasites are constantly complaining in their blogs about being mugged and carjacked. Are they lying?

Who's denying noticing it? I'm saying that people who "focus" on it exclusively are the ones to be blaming. So if race is ultimately about culture, then quit talking about it

Spare me the Marxist race is a social construct. It's people of your mindset that cooked up the good idea of check the box if you're this or that.

Both those statements in your OP are surrounded in quotes so who are you quoting? It looks like no one and you just decided to make that up.

Tell me, how many other threads on CU have you just decided to fabricate quotes, facts, etc...and pass them off as legitimate? I guess it really is true. Liberals lie. Liberals lie all the time.

It always ironic when I hear people like Wei tout the Anthropological view of race as a social construct.

Essentially he 's saying we should hate that we are dividing people based on some kind of "collective" grouping system.......

The irony is then progressives will turn around and start to divide people based on another kind of "collective" grouping system.

LOL! If I drew a map of Denver, I would write Post-Racial Whitey Beat-Down Zone over a large part of lower Downtown yet thousands of people go there every day. Only a few dozen white guys get robbed and pounded by black gangs in LoDo every year but in my mind it certainly stands out as a "bad area". ;)

I assume all places in America are like Detroit and never let my guard down. Suburban mall parking lots are some of the most danerous places for women, in any community. Carjackings, rapes, muggings, all occur at malls, because the 1. criminals assume that you have money on you if you are shopping and 2. women go to malls alone all the time and are targets, especially if they are not carrying themselves in a strong and confident manner.

It works for me. It also doesn't hurt that I'm 5'10". I haven't been to DC since I was a kid, but I assume its dangerous the way Detroit it-the tourist areas are filled with cops and security and the neighborhoods are not. Detroit is totally safe if one is going to a ball game, to dinner in greektown and/or gambling at one of our casinos. Wayne State University is pretty safe during daylight hours, and the museums, music venues and such are also safe areas.

You've obviously never lived or grown up in a real inner city. Perhaps you think you have enough street cred that any one attempting to accost you would instantly recognize it and say, " oww, you're cool bro!" and move on. What if you were black, or jewish or any group known to be hassled by idioits, and were walking in an area of Europe known to be populated with skin heads?

Anyone that walks behind me, I am leery of. That goes for malls in broad daylight hours. You can never be too careful. I was approached by two black punks in Underground Atlanta and three teenagers in the French Quarter whose intent was to rob me. Let's just say I changed their minds and no one got hurt.

DC was the murder capital of the US in the 90's. So no area of any city is crime free. I guess Linda Numbers does not understand that. I lived on the outskirts of DC while in the Army. I was thrilled when I got the hell out of there and got shipped to Germany.

It has changed quite a bit since then, but there are no ideas as resilient as old ideas. No area is crime free, that's correct, but most of us don't live our lives cowering.

I love when liberals try to make a point and shoot themselves in the foot.

Let's boil this thread down to its basic premise.

1. There are areas in DC with high crime rates.

2. Some of the high-crime rate areas are 60% black.

3. Tea Party members coming to DC are advised to stay out of the high crime areas.

4. There's a blurb in a blog about how some native Africans don't like to be called 'African-Americans'.

5. Ergo, Tea Party members are racists.

I think someone here might have dislocated their shoulder trying to grasp that straw.
