Cloudy and overcast in the DC area, but we probably won't even get any rain from Hurricane Earl.

TOTD: Phobias. What are you really afraid of, what makes your skin crawl? When Indiana Jones looks into the pit and gasps, "Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes?" .... what word would you substitute for "snakes"? (Yeah, yeah, "Democrats" and "liberals" are already assumed to have multiple entries). For me it would either be ginormous spiders, or the possibility that Andie MacDowell might make another movie.

Sunny and warm... Hopefully they will let us out early so I can go to the beach.

TOTD: La cucaracha... particularly the Palmetto Bug, otherwise known as the giant flying cockroach.

Shithead managed to break my favorite floor vase last night. If he keeps this up I will put him back where I found him. Grrrr.

TOTD: I think everyone knows my answer to that.

Very few things creep me out but roaches are number uno on the list!

I can't afford to get out all that often but tonight I'm gonna go see Machete at the Drafthouse

as for phobias: any aquatic animal that I cannot see which is in the same body of water that I am in. makes swimming at the beach a terrifying experience.

Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain this afternoon. I hope it doesn't ruin the ballgame tonight.

TOTD: I hate spiders.

TOTD: Spiders. The scene in the tomb with the tarantulas would've been as bad for me as the snakes were for Indy.

Weird. Organics do not creep me out, at all (apart from some humans). Roaches, rats, spiders, airborne or other insects, pre-rabid dogs, none of these creep me out.

OK, organics that one can see light through (certain types of aquatic life for example), I'm not that keen on, but not to the extent that they creep me out.

What really creeps me out is the thought of major engine or braking system failure occurring at high speed in a car I'm driving. That jolts me awake at night, sometimes.

Personally - I don't mind spiders. In fact - I used to enjoy feeding them. Used to catch Crickets, ants, lacewings and other such and throw them into spider webs to watch the fun!:D

TOTD: Scorpions don't so much creep me out as they drive me into a fit of rage, and I'll use any and means necessary to completely destroy each and every one I come across. I've been stung too many times, and it hurts the same, every single time. Cockroaches creep me out, but only if they actually touch my skin. Other than that, the giant pill bug creeps me out. I would probably run from one of these like burn victim from fire.

Oh yes, I've been stung a couple of times myself. That's one part of Arizona I don't miss...

That's cuddly compared to a camel spider.

I'm freezing my ass off in Illinois. It's 67 and the low should be 46. My back hurts and it's pissing me off. :D

TOTD: Not sure. Things that used to bother me really don't anymore. Finding moldy food in the refrigerator at work bothers me mostly because I hate lazy people.

I've seen the camel spiders up close and personal, and they are ugly, really, really ugly. The after affects of their bites is what is really creepy about them though. However, there was another spider I encountered in Iraq which creeped me out even more. I don't know what it was called, but it was all black, and it looked like it's front 2 legs were longer than the rest. I'm sure it wasn't a camel spider because it didn't look big enough. Here's what was so creepy: The thing was ridiculously fast! I came across it while moving some MRE boxes around in a GP tent in the dark. I jumped back a few feet when it ran through my flashlight beam. It crossed the tent in a blink, and I had trouble tracking it with my flashlight! That's how fast it was moving. That thing was creepy for sure.

I agree on the flying roach/beetle type bugs.
Anything with multiple legs that attacks by air.

I bet you can. They look like they would be delicious in pasta with a nice hot anchovy chilli sauce, especially if they were still moving at the time.

Yummallicious. Where can I buy these?

That's because you are considering this as lunch.

Lunch is for wimps.

Something this large, especially lying on its back and twitching gently in a delicious bed of pasta and hot sauce, is not for lunch.

It is for dinner.

Look at it ...

Exactly. We can see beauty in the ugliest thing, provided it is edible.

Imagine it lying on your plate on its back, and you deciding which of its 32 legs will be the first to be dipped into the garlic sauce. How yum would that be.

Damn, another larder run comin' up. :D

That rabid crush I had on you Hamps
after seeing the picture of you in that
snazzy red car has waned. Now all I
can see is you making an after dinner
toast, smiling sweetly....
with bug particles in your teeth.

I get the point.

Peeling one of those, twiching or not, looks like it would take forever. It's what's always put me off about crustaceans.

Still, in the right sauce, pasta and some nice veggies, I'm thinkin ..... :p
