Jeremy Clarkson would be impressed. Outside Ben *Collinsí smart Bristol semi are two brand new cars: a £40,000 sporty A5 and ó *perfect for a growing suburban family ó a £40,000 VW people carrier.

Meanwhile, inside the four-bedroom £575,000 house in Bristolís most upmarket area workmen have been renovating the place for weeks.

If Ben has been worried about losing his job on Top Gear after unveiling himself as the man who has appeared as The Stig for the past seven years, he certainly isnít showing it.

I love Top Gear. It and Demons are the only reason I watch BBC America..... Please Jeremy, don't fire The Stig!

He's toast. It's in the Stig's contract that he must not reveal his identity. This is the 2nd time a Stig has broken contract.

There will be a new Stig to replace him

From the Mail article, it seems that Jeremy and the rest of the cast and producers didn't allow Ben to profit from the show or pay him what he was worth......either way, he is going to become a fairly wealthy man now with all the speaking arrangements and his book deal.

Definitely. He's made a good business decision to "come out", and he's sure to make a good living from the book royalties.

Plus a driver of his caliber is not going to be short of work.

You're right about Top Gear. It's one of the best things the BBC makes.

That's what I was thinking. I followed the link and there is some sort of costumed race car driver - but I have never heard of him.

Top Gear. It's a BBC motoring show. There's three main presenters who get to drive cool stuff in exotic locations and get paid a fortune for doing so...my ideal job, if ever there was one. Jeremy Clarkson, who fronts it, is something of a conservative/libertarian and the bane of many a tree-hugger (he calls them ecomentalists and vegatablists)

The Stig is (or was) the show's mystery driver, who always appears in leathers and helmet, and says nothing. He'll take new cars around the Top Gear circuit to show how they perform when driven by a pro racing driver. He also coaches the "star in the cheap car" each week, in which a well known personality sees how quick they can get an average family car round a circuit.

The deal was always that the Stig should never be revealed, but just be enigmatic. They have done some mock reveals (Schumacher was touted as the Stig on one show) but this one has not until now revealed himself.

The show is well worth watching.

Did you see the episode were Jeremy test drove the Honda Civic Hybrid and proclaimed this was the first car ever he wanted to intentionally crash? :D

My favorite Top Gear bit is where they tried, and failed, to destroy a Toyota Hilux pickup truck....
