Pastor Terry Jones Calls off Koran Burning, Ground Zero Mosque May Be Moved (http://abcnews.go.com/US/pastor-terry-jones-calls-off-koran-burning-ground-zero-mosque/story?id=11594495)

Pastor Terry Jones today canceled his plan to burn Korans at his Florida church after claiming he has struck a deal with a New York Muslim cleric to relocate the so-called Ground Zero mosque.

Jones emerged from his church in Gainesville, Fla., to announce his decision which he said came after days of prayer and said he viewed the supposed deal as "a sign from God."

The fiery pastor said that Imam Abdel Rauf, the leader behind the Ground Zero mosque in Manhattan, will meet with him in New York on Saturday.

"He has agreed to move it," Jones said referring to the Ground Zero Islamic cultural center and mosque. "And we have agreed to cancel our event on Saturday."

"Americans don't want the mosque there and of course Muslims don't want us to burn Korans," said Jones.

Holy, Allah - olly oxen free!

First I thought Pastor Terry just caved in, but then I read on. I was so annoyed at how much air time Jones was getting. Why didn't they just ignore him? Total media blackout! Stop putting him on TV!

But, unless the Jerkie Boys are goofing on the Pastor, and that wasn't really the Imam on the phone... then this story is getting interesting.

If the Imam does show up, have a near-beer summit with Pastor Mustache and come to some sort of gentleman of God agreement... That would be pretty amazing. Especially, since the Imam would have to go back to his people and show them a picture of the guy who made them move the Cultural Center.

If this is for real, then it's a pretty bold move on the part of Imam. Says something about him.

The whole thing is turning into a circus

...Update: Turns out Rauf wasn’t the imam he spoke to, it was another imam. What could go wrong?

Jones said Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida told him that officials would guarantee that the mosque would be moved.

“I asked him three times, and I have witnesses,” Jones said. “If it’s not moved, then I think Islam is a very poor example of religion. I think that would be very pitiful. I do not expect that.”

Update: Now that we’ve officially got a Category 5 super-mega media clusterfark on our hands, Donald Trump wants in on the action: Here’s a story about him offering to buy the Park51 space at 25 percent above cost in order to end this “serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation.” (Remember, the principal owner told the AP yesterday that he didn’t care what happened to the property so long as he made a buck on it.) All we need now for this story to achieve pure PR nirvana is for the “Jersey Shore” cast to somehow get involved.

Update: As quickly as it was offered, Trump’s bid is rejected. The lawyer for Park51′s lawyer calls it “just a cheap attempt to get publicity and get in the limelight.”

Update: My goodness — it’s the media storm of the century!

Westboro Baptist Church, the small Topeka, Kan., church that pickets funerals of American soldiers to spread its message that God is punishing the country for being tolerant of homosexuals, has vowed to hold a Quran burning if Gainesville’s Dove World Outreach Center calls its off.

“WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things,” the church announced in a news release this week....

Says the imam got called on his own terms and caved.

This comically tragic turn events is the type of thing great writers kill themselves to think up...

And Fred Phelps showing up makes Mustache Pete look normal... brilliant!

Topeka'll show us how it's done!

Topeka'll show us how it's done!

Nah, the media will. This entire flap is squarely the fault of the media. A few dozen books being burned in Florida way trumps non-correct Muslim, Christian, and Druse women being butchered in the Islamic world.

'Cause an object is always more important than a human female. Right?

That the "media" is obsessing about this trivial incident but turns a blind eye to Muslims sawing off people's heads is telling.

Yeah, because Pastor Jones is such a shinning example of Christianity in America.:rolleyes:

You and ol' Fred Phelps have got his back. Good job!

It's called casting against type, little man. --

In the morality play unraveling before us, the evil extremist Muslim Wizard has done the unexpected, causing the folksy Christian Pastor to lay down his Zippo can and ponder God's will.

But enter the Devil (this is where they type-cast) Fred Phelps...to temp the Mustached Pastor by mocking his lack of resolve and berating him for breaking bread with Muslims most foul...

A dilemma! What would Christ do? Pray, pray, pray...Look for a sign, like the face of Jesus in the pita from the Halal food cart in midtown Manhattan...

Tuning into tomorrow...

Yes.

Good, so next time someone loses their marbles and labels all muslims as extremists because what some kooked up leader says it wont be difficult to find this one post and ask why the same doesn't apply to Phelps and Jones, who you freely admit are very Christian in their views.

If I thought Terry Jones was any kind of Christian, I'd gladly go with the Muslims. Since I know he is not, it's a moot point.

Left wing liberal atheists like you might think Pastor Jones is a shinning example of Christianity because of your hatred of religion. As usual, you are full of shit.

Excellent point. Why the media gave this whole situation even more than a passing reference is questionable. It trivializes serious issues and lowers them to reality TV show levels.
