Pray For My Family- My 38 Year Old Diabetic Aunt Just Passed Away B-Cuz She Couldn't Afford Insulin!

She got laid off from her job months Ago and lost her insurance. She worked for that factory for 10 years and by the time my mom and grandma were able to get there she was laying on her floor in a coma.

The next time I hear someone trash the Health Care Bill or call it ObamaCare I will go off on them. This isn't Right! I loved her so much and now shes gone because she couldn't afford insulin? What the fuck is wrong with this country?

Does anyone else beside me smell a rat?

Why didn't you buy some for her then?

Why didn't she go to the emergency room?

A quick google search just showed me tons of ways to get insulin for cheap, or even free (from doctors none the less). Something just doesn't smell right about this.

If the story is true, then I'm truly sorry for the loss, but blaming anyone but yourself for this is just stupid. I have no stake in it, and I still found plenty of ways to get insulin by typing two words into google.

A month or two does not go by without a telemarketer asking me if I am a diabetic. TV ads touting free supplies bombards the airwaves. I find this story hard to believe.

QFT As usual, it's someone elses responsibility. Ask this nitwit how illegals get their insulin.

127. Damn them!
My brother in law also lost his employee insurance and died in his thirties when he couldn't afford doctors and insulin and testing supplies. My wife is diabetic and is in her 34th year of teaching school. Because of collective bargaining, she has always had insurance. We live in an uncivilized country. I can't understand it.

I'm so sorry, and it happens every day in the US. yep. EVERY DAY.

107. I am very sorry
my condolences to you and your family. What's wrong with this country? The spirit of humanity has taken a back seat to anger, hatred, and the number one all time favorite vices...GREED!!!!!! If you have any other uninsured family they can check out the Diabetic organizations at community hospitals and clinics. They give information on how to get medicine at the lowest cost and sometimes free. Don't forget the dreaded Walmart. Don't want to give them business but their low cost precriptions can save lives.Again my condolences to you and your family. And when they say Obamacare, don't get too angry just ask them politely if they mean The Patient Prevention and Affordable Care Act. Kinda self explanitory. Right on man! Wait... did one of the lemming pack just admit Walmart has a great prescription medicine plan for the poor? huh...

43. I am so sorry for your loss. My uncle died in 2006 at age 45 under similar circumstances.
He had emergency heart surgery, and no insurance, and died from sepsis caused by deliberately slow/poor post-op care (because they knew he couldn't pay). At one point his surgeon told us all that "you should all be down on your knees thanking me for even having done the surgery in the first place".

This country is morally fucking bankrupt for allowing things like this to happen. Uhh huh. Um yeah... 'cause we all know this shit happens ALL THE TIME.

The supplies can be free, insulin is not and it is very expensive. My insurance covers it and it still costs me $200+ everytime I go to get a prescription refilled.

I had an aunt who died young of diabetic complications. She took her insulin as prescribed. Sometimes, even with the best medical attention, diabetics get complications that no one can forsee.

I'm not saying that's what happened here, but rational thought tells me that there is probably more to the story than her aunt not being able to afford insulin.

Apparently the DUmmies have never heard of community health centers which offer health care services for next to nothing.

I have been in and out of the Emergency Room at the Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge with both my parents at least 10 times. I saw a shit pot full of poor people every time I went there. So, how many times have you been in an ER. BTW, when Hurricane Gustave hit, my dad was in the hospital for a broken hip. The first 2 days the hospital was on emergency generators with no A/C. The third day power came back on and the lobby was inundated with poor blacks in the lobby escaping the 95 plus heat. It got so bad that a guard was placed at the entrance to keep the dead beats out. Conclusion, you are an unmitigated lying idiot.

Your Aunt died because she was a diabetic. She could have reached out to any number of sources, even those "evil" Christians you liberals hate so much. Liberals: Stuck on stupid as usual.

Which leads me to the irony of this DU thread title. They want everyone on the DU to pray for their family. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't DUmmies believe religion to be somewhat silly?

Don't be a dick. someone's family member died.

Tony Snow was someone's family member also. Why don't you go take a look at how the DU and it's collection of idiots handled his death.

She should have gone to the local paper and claimed to be an illegal.

Grady Memorial Hospital said Monday that it will spend $750,000 for its share of a deal to allow continued dialysis treatments for 38 uninsured immigrants once served by Grady.

Three private dialysis providers -- Fresenius, DaVita and Emory Healthcare -- have agreed to provide charity care to 13 of the 38 patients. Grady will pay Fresenius $750,000 to care for the other 25 patients for a year, according to Grady spokesman Matt Gove. That cost is "well below" what the company is usually reimbursed by insurers for dialysis, according to a Fresenius spokeswoman.
...

All of the patients covered by the deal are immigrants and most are in the country illegally.

You "liberals/progressives/socialists/communists", whatever you're calling yourselves today, have long ago lost any credibility.

If you're communicating, you're lying.

OH, of course, it's completely true. Never mind that it totally follows their talking points, or that they spend hours making up incredibly stupid bouncers all the time...THIS one must, of course, be totally true...just because WeeWee says so.

As was suggested before, go look through some of the DUmp threads that rejoice and celebrate the death of "someone's loved one." One good example would be Tony Snow. But of course, people that celebrate the death of conservatives and frequently make up ridiculous stories would NEVER lie about a relative.

64. On the cure
I think Type 1 diabetics and HIV patients must share some of the same frustrations when it comes to a cure. Both diseases strike the auto-immune system, which can complicate the cure. Both have been under study for decades and progress has been made, but no definitive cure is yet available. Stem cells are the most promising area for diabetes, but the political cage fighting over stem cell research is appalling. I hate to think that a repub win this November will push the hopes of millions out of reach for another several years, but that is likely going to be one result.

All bets are off in a collapse of the economy.

]Diabetics cured in stem-cell treatment advance (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article1637528.ece)

In a breakthrough trial, 15 young patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes were given drugs to suppress their immune systems followed by transfusions of stem cells drawn from their own blood.

The results show that insulin-dependent diabetics can be freed from reliance on needles by an injection of their own stem cells.

Stem cell therapy about which there is NO political disagreement.
